I like I-66 Fairfax County Recycling Center where I have been bringing stuffs to including lithium batteries, motor oil, cooking oil, glass containers, etc. I am conscious about recycling and appreciate the workers at the center. I, however, have had bad experience at the Household Hazardous Waste section where some employees are just so rude. They don't even respond to me when I greet or say thank you to them. Just a small thing but it can be better.

Thank you for your question. Your regular bags of trash do not go through any sorting process to remove recycling material. Separation of waste should take place curbside so that collectors can collect your trash and recycling with separate trucks. Trash goes directly either to the waste-to-energy plant in Lorton or end up in a landfill outside of the county. Recycling goes to a Materials Recycling Facility which then separates the plastic bottles, cardboard, paper, aluminum & tin cans for further processing of each type of material.

How do I know what my full ballot is supposed to look like? How do I know if I got a ballot with all the offices and measures I'm supposed to vote for in my district? How do I know that the printee out ballot covers all the issues I voted for on the screen? Why do you think it's better to divide up my ballot into tiny sections instead of letting me see the whole ballot at one time? How do I know the machines are secure? How do I know your software isn't tampered with? Why would I want a private company having access to all the votes? Doesn't that seem like a conflict of interest on the company's part? What happens when the machines break down, have a glitch in the programming that we have to wait for a company only technician to fix, or the power goes off? Why would we want to add all these problems and cost, especially when every other electronic voting system is getting the bejesus sued out of them for possible fraud and illegitimate proprietary software in several nations, when paper and pen works 100% of the time and I have all the information of my ballot on one easy sheet? Really, what is the point of electronic voting machines? What is the benefit?

Does my regular bag of trash from my can go through the Sorting process to pull out any recycling material?
@juniorxxnho29 күн бұрын
This is a great question. I personally do not bag my recyclables and will empty them out and turn the plastic ‘trash’ bags into a grocery store by me. That’s how we all can get something back from the 5 cent tax. At least that’s how I can make it seem logical.

Having moved here from Los Angeles, where I was in the 6.8 Northridge earthquake and in DC in 2011 for the (correction) 4.9 shaker earthquake with little to no damage. Here’s what I have learned and what I’ve been trained to do to be prepared. 1. It’s critically important to move to a place in your home where you have structure that can protect you. So the recommendation is to move to a doorway where the strength of the structure of the door will protect you as opposed to being in the middle of a room where the ceiling can collapse or or loose objects can be become projectiles, including hanging art, and bookcases can fly. • if you can’t get to a doorway, go under a desk or your dining room table to protect you from projectiles. • In Los Angeles it is recommended that you bolt your furniture, such as bookcases or dressers to the wall for safety. It’s also a good idea to do this with young children in the home. 2. It is recommended in Southern California is to never put any glass hanging above your bed. This means framed photos or art that can project out and hit you while you’re sleeping. • It is also recommended to not place your bed under a window for this same reason. 3. Always have good flashlights fully charged or with a good supply of batteries to operate them. 4. Earthquakes can easily make the water supply contaminated. Therefore, it is important to have a min of one gallon of clean drinking water available per person and per pet. It’s quite possible you’ll have to boil the water before using it in a consequential earthquake. 5. Don’t use candles and matches because it can cause or trigger an explosion if there is a gas leak from your stove or hot water heater. Most likely you will not be aware of a leak just after the first strongest quake. 6. Keep the most valuable documents and family photos or whatever you deem to be valuable in a closet closest to the front door. This way if you need to evacuate after the first quake, you can be prepared when you leave. • Buildings in an impactful earthquake will have to be inspected for structural damage by the county and you may not be able to go back in if it’s red or yellow tagged. Having important items close to the exit/entrance will keep you prepared. DC metro is not LA but this is what earthquake preparedness looks like. Also always have the first aid kits up-to-date. I keep one or two kits in my vehicle.

Here's a good one. Yesterday I received an Absentee Ballot in my afternoon mail. I thought it rather strange because I didn't request one. Closer inspection reviled that it was addressed to John R. Walker, Jr., my father. I'm John Ross Walker and my father's been deceased since 1981...
