Would I need the OpenWRT-compatible router to have the bridge mode or wireless AP mode features? Or can I just get one that doesn’t have those and do this on it once I have OpenWRT on it? This bit got me confused. I’ve been looking for a router that had at least one of these two on the compatibility list on the openwrt website and I can’t find one that has these features at all, I basically thought this was a requirement to get this (what you did) to work. this is why I’m asking. :) (I’m pretty new to openwrt in general, my friend recently recommended me to start using it.)

Exceptionally predatory pricing with extra for the pen and cloud integration, to me it's the kind of behaviour from a company that thinks they have a moat. And for that reason screw them, I'm not interested!

Thanks, Mark. You make a few very good points, but most people are not adults. Also, most people do not want to take responsibility for anything. Most people are placid followers who can fall prey to a bad apple in the organisation. Etc. Yes, ideally, they could self- regulate and work autonomously, but the sad reality is that they need a Dad or Mum boss to keep them safe from others and themselves, even if such parental figure were abusive.

The cost of this product is absurd for what it is. Basically all it can do is take notes and sketch. $500 + $200 folio + $36 a year subscription to take notes. Save yourself the time and just buy an iPad with a "paper" screen protector.

Think I'll wait for a better version. From what I saw the screen responsiveness and refresh rate are lacking. The fact that they try to lock you into a subscription for simple sync feature is scummy business practice imo. No pen included is silly. I would like the screen to have color and more importantly backlighting. Other than that I think this product has the potential to become standardized school equipment. If the costs can be lowered. Its an excellent idea, but they are certainly looking to milk as much as they can. Understandable from a company/business perspective. Hopefully more competition will come so the consumer can benefit from lower prices and more features.

I was trying for a while to add a secondary wireless router (Tp-Link TL-MR3420) on my home network. But nothing was working. I did try WDS but the secondary router was unable to get IP from the DHCP server (primary router VX420-G2h) or able to assign IP to the connected hosts. So, I upgraded the firmware from Tp-Link to OpenWRT for more functionality. I configured everything as it should be but got the same issue. Then, I found your video and followed the instructions carefully and finally I was able to setup secondary router on the network wirelessly. Although, I had to manually install the luci-proto-relay package through SSH. However, I can remotely reach out to the hosts (ESXi) connected to the secondary router through ethernet cable from my other devices connected to my home WiFi. Just have minor concern that I can't reach to secondary router interface (GUI), so to access it I have to manually change the router IP to the secondary router in order to access it. Everything is sorted now. Thanks for this video.

As someone who was setting this up and relied on this youtube video today, these are bad instructions. Device isn't discoverable on network, other connection issues. For just internet access it works, but otherwise people would be best served by following the WRT Relay instructions because this guide clearly gets some steps wrong.

Hugely overpriced. For such a price and these features, I expect a buttersmooth performance and colors. At the very least. Even then. The price is ridiculous. I don't even want to know the margin on this thing.

if anyone wondering, when he is creating the wireless network interface and types his passphrase he cuts the video, you need to select "lan" in the firewall dropdown, otherwise it will not give the "lan wwan" option when creating the relay_bridge

I've got to say this seems pretty misleading. You can sync with your computer without a subscription, it just doesn't integrate the same way with dropbox and google drive. It also support epub files which means it will support any DRM free ebook. You can pretty much find any book for FREE and load it onto the remarkable no problem. As for the pen, it supports any waycom pen. This is likely why its not included, bc many will have a compatible pen and therefor be saving money. This also means you aren't locked to using a remarkable pen.

Could have been a nice product. SSL-Protected cloud space is cheap and Data protection relatively easy. But a close-to-600$€ device that cannot even get proper, classic, direct, non-cloud file transfer going without any app that each has its own terms, agreements and its own _DATA COLLECTION_ - what a effed proposition. For < 200€ maybe - including the pen - if you really can spare your thoughts and financial decision-making with the world. < 300 € if it had classic [Bluetooth, FTP, USB, ...] file transfer, again, including the pen. Both pricepoints would have easily commulated at least 3 Millionaires in the first two years.

Hi Mark, The content of your review is great, especially the parts about: -how much do the different types of pens cost -how to send articles using the Google Chrome extension But, if I would be able to suggest a possible missing on your vid is the following: When you talk about the layer on top of the document, it will help you see your screen on the 'remarkable' to understand what you refer to. Apart from that, your review is really helpful. Congrats!

Great marketing, expensive product due to all the required loose parts, quality itself is less than mediocre and customer service is medieval compared to current standards in the market. Long story short, don't do it :)

I already have more online storage than I need - across three cloud services. There is no way I'll pay for more. Plus, once you have to sign up for an essential service, there is nothing to stop them ramping up the prices. Pen costs are also a major factor. It's all too easy to break or lose a pen and the replacement cost is far too high. Changing to a third-party pen is possible but I don't want to find myself doing so as a distress purchase.
