I would choose to move to a state that allows a person to self terminate their own life when faced with a catastrophic illness. I would prefer to go out surrounded by loved ones, laughing and talking about memories....NOT in a facility devoid of any memory of my past.

The doctor was great, he didn't rush, he looked them in the eyes and he explained and he said he has a plan. My brother was told he had dementia by one doctor and then he changed it to pseudodementia (he didn't tell my brother), then the geriatrician said he had adhd and chronic anixiety and he saw a psychatrist (his family doctor didn't even know he saw the psychiatrist) and my brother told his doctor the psychiatrist said he had dementia. He was prescribed meds by the geriatrician and my brother had lost his job. I drove 8 hrs to see my brother and another 8 hrs to see him again. He was given no plan , the doctor didn't suggest for him to see him again or what the pills were to do for him. He has to apply for longterm disability but my brother who forgets didn't know how important it was contact his doctor and contact long term disability. We are trying to get this done, and trying to get him on unemployment insurance. My cousin got my brother on his municipal pension and this will not cover his bills. When I was with my borther, I told everyone he was dealing with why are you telling him to do all these things when he can't remember, you need to write it down and go over it with him. He now has ccmmunity nurses talking with him and me and they will get a social worker to help. He is alone where he lives. I am a registered nurse and will be retiring on Oct 31 2024. I have never felt so let down my the so called experts. I descrive it as my brother in a row boat in the middle of the Alantic Ocean with no paddles. This is disgusting. I as a nurse never let a patient go without having a plan in place if it was needed. I live in Canada and I am appalled

My wife was diagnosed with dementia in a video phone call on September 30, 2020. The neurologist delivered the test results as matter of factly as telling us he had a hamburger and fries for lunch. No compassion. No positioning. He did none of the discussion on treatment, next steps, connection with social worker. My wife left the call to go out with her friend, not even remembering the diagnosis. I sat and cried like a baby. Her friend called an hour later and asked what the diagnosis was - my wife didn’t remember. That was a rough period. This doctor is miles ahead of our experience. Kudos to him. So sorry for Sam and Lydia. It’s a long hard road.

She scored a 2 out of 5. She scored 0 points for the clock because she didn't get the time right. The clock is worth 2 points and all of it must be correct (including the time of 11:10) to receive the points. You can score either a 2 or a 0 for the clock portion. When repeating each word back to the practitioner in the final section of the test, each word recalled is worth one point. She remembered 2 out of 3 words, so she scored a 2 on the word recall portion. 0 points for the clock, 2 points for the word recall. This is a very concerning score and indicates memory loss with pathology. A score of 3, 4, or 5 is less concerning. A score of 0, 1, or 2 is very concerning. I wish they would have reviewed the scoring system in this video. This video is not very informational without that portion.

My grandpa has Alzheimers and he’s in the late stages already, he’s bed ridden and can’t do anything from himself anymore. I remember when he’d do this test and now he can’t do answer or comphrend anything shown in this test. It’s just so sad, the disease just takes everything away from you. And now, it’s just hard for me to imagine a time 5 or so years he was able to even attempt this test because it’s so bad now
