My issue with that take is, its honestly fucking stupid, all of the games shine in every category, best story and characters are subjective as hell, and the take pretty much says "each game does these things worse" instead of showing "all games are great in this, but this one imo stands out more"

I've played all 3 (would play all 6, but the first 3 are not on pc and I don't wanna emulate). Despite that, Persona 5 Royal has all 3 my favorite gameplay, story and characters. Persona 4 fans seem to be fine with this opinion, Persona 3 fans however get extremely butthurt. They are the autistic hipsters of the fanbase who think they are unique and quirky basically; I generally avoid them.

Honestly this is making me wanna play the original. Everything you showed from the original seems so cool and eerie. Silence is a very powerful tool if used right and its used perfectly in p3.

My personal headcannon for P5 Vanilla, Royal, and Strikers is that Strikers takes place after Vanilla in a scenario where Joker takes Yadabaoth’s deal and continues the work of the Phantom Thieves and Royal is the timeline where Joker rejects Yadabaoth’s and Maruki’s deals to free humanity from being controlled.

I didn't like how Monad Doors felt like padding in the game. Especially when a majority of Elizabeth's requests revolved around them. The Answer had too many Monad Doors.

You have a point about characters that don't come across as nice. I tend to like those social links more, because they tend to behave in a more believable way. Their issues often feel plausible, rather than just rehashing some trope.People like Naoki, Mutatsu, Iwai, Akinari, Iwai... Even Yusuke fits the mold, considering how odd he is. A lot of them like responses that aren't obvious, bland platitudes. Not all of them, but even Akinari and Naoki feel like their conversations are minefields. Mishima is fairly divisive, but he has some excellent character development. And even the despised Suemitsu can be rather interesting to talk to, even if his social link is rather incoherent. On the other hand, I tend to dislike characters that come across as bland and inoffensive, or focused on a single personality trait. P3R has tons of those - Kenji the milf hunter, Bebe the weeb, Chihiro the WHO WANTS TO HELP ME WITH MY SELF ESTEEM ISSUES, pick your poison. They just feel like there's nothing to them. You can have a kind character that works well; Yuko is great, because despite lacking any notable, distinguishing traits she doesn't come off as bland, but as relatable and normal. Ann is pretty well written for a kind person, even if her confidant story is incoherent. I feel like there are less one feature characters in P5 than in any other persona game.

Persona 5: Best Story Idc, the nonlinear elements of it is exciting and the inspirational tone of the story is kickass

The entire reason P4 is my favorite is the vibe and lighter tone. It is very much the JoJo part 4 slice of life thing where they stumble onto a murder mystery. You aren't and orphan or someone with some criminal history, you are just a kid whose parents are overseas for work. And i like it being in a small town. I wouldnt say it is better or worse, Just the vibe appeals to me the most. It feels comfier to me than the other games.

Nah, they made a ton of more general RPG’s and tactical RPG’s back in the day, as well as fighting and racing games. I’ve been on a tactical rpg kick lately and it seems like every other one has the Atlus logo at the beginning. But yeah, SMT and Persona are based off the same series of novels.

Persona 5 has the most boring social links holy shit and the most boring main cast tbh I found the gameplay in p3 reload more fun. Yeah Tartarus is repetitive but at least I can get a block over with in like an hour then go back to the fun social link stuff. Plus I just like the flow better and think it looks nicer. P5 looks like shit even the royal version. Also the last half of palaces just drag on way too long but idk that’s just me

Idk I feel like when it comes to story I feel like people mainly like the premise more if you will. Like the dark hour and all that dark shit. I mean you could argue there’s not much of a story there in p3. It’s literally just dark hour this, and get all the way to the top of Tartarus that. It’s arguably the worst story in the sense that the plot doesn’t move forward till the second half and you’re not really given your real objective till the last act of the the game when ryoji gets introduced. You and your team are just winging it going to Tartarus and fighting a boss every month for what feels like no reason

Persona 3’s good ending is one of my favorite endings of all time. It is absolutely beautiful.

Still prefer Persona 4 over Golden. I hate the way the new dialog sounds for the new added content like the beach scenes. And i just like barely care for marie. I wish original had adachi as a SL so thats the only thing ill give Golden

(In all seriousness, Naoto really speaks to me as someone who grew up more comfortable being 'boyish' and felt like femininity didn't suit me. Maybe people remember the 'not all girls' trend that went around many years back, those memes that painted the 'one true girl' with her nose in books while every other girl around her was a mindless sheep obsessed with makeup or something. I resonated with that at the time, but it degrades femininity and women who choose to present that way as lesser, shallow, and unimportant. Through that lens, I feel like Naoto's story is about recognising (or at least attempting to recognise) that 'being female' is not inherently lesser state of being and that the road to being taken seriously in society does not have to be taken through trying to emulate a 'superior' masculinity.) - etc, although I'm sure I'm years late to the gender discourse as I read all of it _before_ playing P4G just last year.
