Regular cardstock? Watercolor paper??
@angiebartist5 ай бұрын
I believe it’s mixed media card I used in this video. The best thing is to try the card stock and paper you have and see how it goes. If you are unsure use smaller pieces. 😊

Would this work on canvas
@angiebartist11 ай бұрын
I find the gel plate doesn’t “give up” the paint as well onto canvas so you get a more aged look. A smoother surface works better. One option would be a wood panel that has been primed maybe. Hope that helps. 😊

I’m worried that palette knife will damage the plate not so much the oils?
@angiebartist Жыл бұрын
I’ve used my palette knife many, many times on my gel press with no issues. As long as you don’t force it into the gel or try to move solidified paints there shouldn’t be an issue, in my experience.
@kristinclark4767 Жыл бұрын
As a rule, you can put oil over acrylic (or under on the gelli plate) but not acrylic over oil (or vice versa on the gelli plate). Acrylic will not stick permanently to oil paint and will flake off. You should keep this in mind. Once you have put acrylic on the gelli plate, adding oil can cause a problem in the final piece because that acrylic will end up over the oil in the final pice and cause adhesion problems.
@gr8fng11 ай бұрын
Because gelli printing works in reverse the white acrylic in 2nd pull does sit under the oil paint paper when pulled onto paper ❤

I've been looking into granulating paints such as Schmincke's. I ordered it twice and cancelled it twice on Amazon. I whimped-out because of the price. Then watching your video I got an idea. I mixed some of the dark brown and the purple and it gave me beautiful granulation. So did the dark brown and red. I gonna make my own granlating colors.

I went through a similar ‘ordeal’ and landed on the 24 count set of Brusho’s. There is also a granulating medium available that I will probably get.

Hello Thank you for watching the video. I believe the card stock is 300gsm super smooth card. It’s great as it takes a lot of product from a wide range of mediums without disintegrating. Mine is from a UK company called Pink Pig. I hope that helps. 😊

Do you add a last coat of resin over the pieces you colored with the wax?
@angiebartist Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. To date I haven’t added an extra coat of resin. It depends on whether the piece you add it to is going to be touch much as to whether you feel the need. 😊
@editek5992 Жыл бұрын
@@angiebartist Thanks for replying. I was thinking more on the future need to clean it and/or the accumulation of dust on the wax.
@angiebartist Жыл бұрын
@@editek5992 the layers of wax are very thin so the surface can easily have a gentle wipe without impacting on the colours. If it’s a concern on your pieces you could paint a thin layer or resin on top or use a spray top coat/varnish. 😊

PS: first experiment with Griffin oil paints worked fantastic. Even thinned the paint with a little linseed oil. Picked up most of the color from the gel plate with the prints - any left overs I easily cleaned with a few drops of oil on a rag. I used linseed oil - but I'm sure any kitchen oil can be used for that purpose. Also an alkyd medium ( Liquin from Winsor Newton) mixed with any of the oil paints you have - would shorten the drying time. I have a fire going in the wood stove - and I know tomorrow morning my prints will be dry. - good luck - enjoy!

Love the print results with oil paint. Thanks for sharing your experiments. I have always liked the look of oil paint better than acrylic paint - and I have used Griffin Alkyd paint for my paintings. I will try them on my gel plate. They are fast drying oil paints from Winsor & Newton. greetings!

On the info sheet that comes with every gelli plate it says it can be used with watermixable oils, so I looked it up and found your video. I'm so glad you shared this with us because I probably wouldn't have dared to risk ruining my gel plate. Not to mention that I'd never even have thought of pulling oil paint with acrylic! I think this will allow me to experiment with more traditional monotype techniques where you cover a plate with ink and then remove it in areas to create your image. Very excited to experiment now that I've seen what's possible.
