I better stick to the conventional tasted and proved to be durable. How do you determine the strength integrity of those blocks. Better save the sorry. My opinion.

Hi Mark . As the beam and block is produced in a factory environment cube tests are taken for each cast of the beams and then random blocks are selected and taken for testing . We do transverse load testing on the blocks. Structurally the floor is designed to suit the application that the client requires.

Good Question , Beam and Block requires to be supported its not designed to cantilever .

All balconies are built on structural beams. Even normally cast slabs for balconies will be done on structural beams. A multistorey building = the load bearing structural beams and columns. Everything else from floors to walls and everything in between can be replaced as long as the load on the structural beams and columns is kept equal to or below design figures.

The slab cant be that strong built using prefab blocks! These blocks lack cement, aggregate mixture to withstand heavy loads. Quick, easy but detrimental on long term.. I stand to be corrected.

The block and beam floor designed to be structural and undergo regular testing during manufacture. The floor is then designed to suit the usage and spans required and standard safety margins are applied to the design .

Yes. The floor should be suspended above the ground level by a min of 150 mm .

How do you compensate for the water lost during slab concreting through the block spaces? Bearing in mind we need water for cement hydration so that the concrete can achieve the specified strength?

If the pre-tensioned precast beams half casted concrete until the neutral web of the beam and if you cast the floor with the flange of the beam a monolithic concrete formed to strength the ribbed floor. That way i feel comfortable to recommend b/c with limited tools test equipment and workmanship leads to unsafe construction. And also column curing time has to be maintained to proceed construction of upper floors and props has to be used untill the concrete reaches full strength through curing.
