This song is so deep, saying goodbye to your home and to a way of life that is gone. This is universal.

I was born in 2004 and grew up in CBS, my parents are from around the bay and were part of the first generation In our history who didn’t fish for cod. This song makes me think of them and my grandparents every time I hear it and I can’t help but feel melancholic.

John Phippard has written a lovely, touching and powerful song with this one. Love it, and I've only ever been to Nfld one time for two weeks. Darcy Broderick does it so well. Hard not to get a tear or two ;-)

It's like a classic country sound from the 60's and 70's. Neil reminds me of Ray Price. He has that kind of voice and stage presence.

i'm crying...you ruined the fish trade.....suck it up
@newfieshamrock76213 жыл бұрын
Actually foreign trawlers and the original trudeau government caused all this..by bringing in the draggers when the older fishermen advised against use of the otter trawl etc..too many foreign trawlers as well..newfoundlanders did NOT cause this...was many influences and no protection of the fishery from ottawa when we rhe fisherpeople asked for it..they did too little too late
@DeathsHood2 жыл бұрын
"you ruined the fish trade" - *Super trawlers with mile wide nets have entered the chat.* Yes, small town fishers capable of carrying a couple tons of fish ruined the trade, not the massive trawlers capable of carrying thousands of tons at a time.
@newfieshamrock76212 жыл бұрын
Yeah ill stand with my original comment which i beleive is known by all who are in the knowing of the all,as being the truth..big boats raped us clean out of fish including the facrory trawlers too..tell ye lies to the mainlanders,because this newfie lad knows better..but at least now ye been told today lol
@DeathsHood2 жыл бұрын
@@newfieshamrock7621 My comment was sarcasm
@newfieshamrock76212 жыл бұрын
Sarcasm is ok sir..but in a one dementional enviorment,how was i to know this from mere words typed in haste.. forgive me if i misread your intention..please refer to original commemt for the most very valuable lesson of all..trawlers and foreign freezer trawlers and being governed by fools in ottawa were to blame..whose dumb idea it was to replace over 500 years of handed down knowledge of the sea from the old devon and cornish,and irish sailers is something ill never understand.let alone leaving these decisions in the hands of idiots in ottawa who likely dont even eat cod or even like the smell of it in their kitchens or on their tables..imbeciles..i doubt the fishery will ever recover..we got done in by morons in ottawa and in st johns..welcome any new comment

First time I heard this song/watched the video I was crying huge tears. Growing up "around the bay" where my Dad was a fisherman, this song (sung so beautifully by Darcy) certainly brought back memories of a different time, a different life. We oftentimes don't appreciate that which we have until it is no more. Thank you for posting this video. I shall be listening to it often.
