In my particular case, I went with the Leupold Mk5 2-10 because i didn't like the .25 mrad dot. It was too large to make precision shots beyond 300yds under windy conditions. Topped it with a RMR CC and I'm very happy!

The only reason there’s not a mk5 2-10 on here is because I don’t like the reticle options. If they come out with an illuminated PR2, I’ll definitely consider swapping it out.

I like the concept a lot. Since you have an offset dot that could qualify as a primary optic, maybe it would be worth swapping the 1-10 for a 3x15 or something with more magnification. Also its hard to balance weight vs capability and id say this rifle is definitely leaning on the extended range side

Man that is a sexy rifle! Maybe look into the Larue CTR cheek riser. The riser is the full length of the stock but the front half slides back so you can run your charging handle still. It’s not as low profile as the .25” one you got there tho

Hey Hunter I think I asked this in the last video. Have you tried using the riser with the intention of head forward on the stock for scope use, and head back w/ the riser for a little boost on the top mount dot? I'm on the fence about getting one for a setup like yours, but I want to have a decently usable top dot without nods as well.
@projectblackhills
@projectblackhills 29 күн бұрын
That was definitely the original plan. I've just found that this specific style of riser does nothing for cheek weld. If you do a normal weld, you don't feel it, and if you try and move your head back to get up on the riser, it feels awkward and unintuitive. Like I said in the video, at this point, it's only on there for looks. Gives the tan stock some nice contrast and doesn't add any noticeable weight.

I’m confused, I know the polonium’s are great cans , but I thought they have the highest back pressure when comparing to like a sandmanS? Can any one confirm this? I actually have a sandman S , and I want a polonium , but was told that polonium’s have higher back pressure.
@theLeadGin
@theLeadGin 29 күн бұрын
The full size polonium has more back pressure than the Sandman s. The polonium k has about the same maybe a touch more than the Sandman s. For reference the full size polonium and Sandman s where shot on the same rifle 13.7" 5.56 with a riflespeed gb. The polonium needed setting 2, and the Sandman s and polonium k needed setting 3 (a less restrictive setting) to bring ejection to 3:30-4 o'clock.
@projectblackhills
@projectblackhills 29 күн бұрын
So far the felt gas in my face is much less with the Polonium-K. I'm sure there are scientific tests out there, and @theLeadGin might be quoting one of those, but in my real world experience, the Sandman-S has more back pressure and gas in my face. The rifle as a whole was tuned as well as I could without getting an adjustable gas block or BRT tube before, and just swapping the cans, there is a noticeable difference, and the Polonium-K comes out on top. This is all just my opinion and my experience.

@@projectblackhills not very scientific, just something me a couple of buddies did. I took the Riflespeed gb off my 308 and installed it on my 13.7 5.56 Noveske with a milspec buffer spring and carbine buffer. We just wanted to see the differences in gas between our "traditional" baffled cans and flow through. We compared Sandman S, K, Resonator, Resonator k, polo, polo k, saker k, and a velos.

If I put it up front, then the charging handle won’t be able to fully come back. The cheek riser is pretty much there to add contrast to the stock. It’s dumb that I’m keeping it on there for that reason, but it’s also so far back that it’s not effecting my cheek weld in the slightest.

I disagree with other top is best. But I have found the best way to passive aim with a side dot is you need it on the forward slot and it needs to be a 1.70 or the 1.93 j arm. I have done this with a holosun 503 on multiple rigs with the badger mount. Even an arisaka one works. Don’t be like that naggot that runs 100 concepts and whines about your nods tube bumping your scope. It’s a reference point. Bring your optic to your eye not the eye to the optic.
@projectblackhills
@projectblackhills 29 күн бұрын
Well I had it on the 1.7 J-Arm on the front and the back and it wasn't high enough to clear the nods. You can disagree as much as you want, and if it works for you, that's cool. It didn't for me. And that's kind of the entire point of our videos. Don't do something just cause someone said to. Try it for yourself, and decide what's right for you. Thanks for commenting.

I think you misunderstood. When I said we reconfirm zero at the beginning of the weekend, I just meant at the beginning of this particular weekend. It’s not something we do every week. However, it is good to just reconfirm every now and then. Even with high end and durable optics and mounts, there can be shift during travel, weather, and use. Just visually confirming nothing is out of the ordinary before going out and shooting more expensive ammo will save you time, money, and frustration. Speaking from experience!
