Good idea but to make it more sturdy . I would but a rock or something heavy in the first container. Then to make it look better I would cut the screw tops off a little more work but would look a lot better. glue the containers to each other and instead use fern leaves on top; simulate palms better. Also no leaves in between and to cover the bottom would wrap in burlap. You could even glue some shelves to it maybe even some real sand. You could even string some lights through the cups for a glow at night. 😬 what do you think?

Tip: you could wrap ribbon to your skewer stick or paint them for a nicer look.
