Imagine never seeing a keyboard, then typing 60wpm in 18 months. You have to time in front of the keys!

I wish I had the motivation and skill to try to attempt to do this. I went to a court reporting school years ago to tour but it was too expensive and it was a lot more difficult then I imagined. I’m sure hard work pays off if you pass cause they get paid very well.

Here in India we still use old method of stenography, writing method. Even in the courtroom stenographers use a steno pad and a pen or pencil. I think there is long way for us to adopt the digital steno machine and develop the whole infrastructure in trade schools because they still teach the shorthand(pitman shorthand generally) language. You can achieve the speed of average human which is 120-130wpm in one or two years and after continues practice you can write more faster. The writing is also good but whats better than this machine and software. Amazing. I can write at the speed of 100wpm but I need to do more practice.

I have to remind myself that it's like playing the piano. I know where A-G are without needing it written on the keys, because I've played for so long. But still, watching the guy type on the steno machine without letters on the keys twists my brain!

The stenographers always look like a joke when they start typing, ppl sometimes think they crazy, i always laugh whenever i saw them in action, the act of typing mindlessly made them the coolest person in court room. 😆😆

so there is absolutely no point for this machine and job anymore. A simple microphone and googles awesome speech to text app. They should transition immediately and save some money. althought the government will just spend it on something else, like personalized birthday cakes or ballarina classes.

I think the easiest way to understand stenographing is if you play games that has a lot of abilities but few keybinds, you just combine buttons to make a new keybind.

I don't think this sounds very realistic. The man's voice is very monotone, you can tell he's reading a script. Real life testimony should be used for exams, that would make more sense.
