Wow. The more I see of Barrowman the more I dislike him. No matter what he's doing I get that undertone of "Look at me! I'm John Barrowman!" There's a big difference between self-aware and self-obsessed. Sorry, Mr. Barrowman, not a fan. I love the song. I'm thinking of learning it myself, but I would do it much slower, with calm self-knowledge and an absence of the pizzazz.

I’m watching this after John’s husband said he loves this song and watches this video of John performing it because he looks so sexy in it haha. I can see where he’s coming from

My favorite version of this song has always been the one sung by Dean Jones (Love Bug). He played Bobby for just one month when Company first opened but his version is the one that endures since the OBC album was released in 1970. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l56boqWoj6anhpY

Best male performance of this song by far. I saw Katrina Link’s version, twice, (a show that ended too f$@king soon) and was blown away by what seemed like a totally different sentiment. Color me dazzled. Then disturbed by the other versions I had seen, I searched for male a version that matched its raw introspection, and damn it, here it is. It’s everything!

not sure if John is a dancer, but he is definitely very comfortable moving with magnificent grace and ease doing the steps. He is wonderfully and devilishly adorable in this song. After singing "that's this answer for me" a number of times, to speak questionable last line in musical form had a great last impression effect.

this was so muddy in vocal quality, tonality, and such emotional maudlin made this a really shabby and boring piece of theater. I did not realize that was George Hearn, (I have seen and loved him in many things, this was dreadful) Carol Burnett was very much a one note emotionally, which I have never witnessed in the many things I have watched and enjoyed her do. John Barrowman (if he was stronger both as a singer and as an actor, I think he could have been some type of emotional glue that could made this work better, but he was in over his head. I never knew that Bronson could sing, but his voice sounds like he is hanging on for dear life from being very uncertain and unsure. This could have used a director and musical director to really pull it together. it really sound like some really good and talented people just casually singing, and trying to make something work, but did not have enough rehearsal, and the right mindful guidance of a good director and music director.

@@paragod333 I never felt I'll, simply expressing my opinion. Not a question of illness, but simply what I felt at the moment, which is what theatre used to be about.

I grew up in the theatre - was an actress and gleaned my Acting BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts - but have NEVER had a crush on a Gay actor. Until Barrowman and was SO bummed when I discovered he was Gay...then was SO happy when I realized he was completely out and proud!!! :D

Wow I’m clearly in the minority here but I find this to be such a flat performance..especially given the sentiments expressed in the song. Yes he is an attractive guy but so what? Lol he doesn’t seem to comprehend the power of the lyrics. He interprets everything so literally and lacks the nuance in the character. “Marry me a little” illustrates an idealized view of companionship, one where little is sacrificed but freedom is demanded at every turn. It shows Bobby wants partnership but he is not ready to commit ..because he is incapable of giving himself completely.. For a beautifully evocative performance check out Raul Esparza’s version. Or for a different take go see Katrina Lenk currently performing the role in a gender reversed production on Broadway. I feel both of these actors get the character. The interpretations are different but the emotion is raw and iwrenching. Barrowmans version just feels like a disneyfied version of substantive material,.

This is one of Stephen Sondheim's most sublimely ironic songs (no small statement when you recall what a large role irony has played in Sondheim's lyrics over the years.) No one who has ever burned with the fire of true passion thinks in the terms expressed in this song. (A friend of mine once laughed at the way so many people these days say they insist on a "50-50 relationship". "How many love poems or love songs have you ever heard that say 'For you, I'd climb halfway up the tallest mountain'? 'For you, I'd swim halfway across the deepest ocean'?")
