I'm not blind, Ralph's father was clearly of african decent. Mixed race of course but is obvious and not spoken of. Wasn't there a scandal about racism from Ralph Lauren?

My 80-yr-old mom called three days ago to report that the neighbors huge tree fell into our yard, crushing our fence and tree. She was told that an adjuster would be in touch later that day. Apparently, this is yet another insurance company that's only good at TAKING your money.

The spelling of my family's surname was changed through the immigration/Ellis Island process due to someone's poor handwriting. An "i" was written as a loop with a dot on the original document. By the next one, it was written as an "e", and never changed back to the original spelling. I've seen copies of the documents that clearly show this.

They should have not written the names but should of printed the names.

Why would our grandparents lie to us? They told us themselves. Why so many born on Dec. 25th? They didn't speak English so how could someone on either shore understand them?

I know of more than one person whose name was changed at Ellis Island, because their original name was too long or too difficult.
@Scorch10283 жыл бұрын
What these historians are saying is that the names on the documents that the immigrants "brought with them" weren't changed at Ellis Island. Well, some of these names were definitely changed. In fact, I have two different uncles by marriage who's Polish surnames were changed at Ellis Island. Among Polish immigrants, it was very common for their surnames to be shortened into something that most American English-speakers could easily pronounce. Leiskleiovsky would be changed to Luskey, and Betleineiovsky would be simplified to Betliskey.

how do they get them all in alphabetical order when you add your ancestor before or after some else already did in order.?

I would like to know for those that went through Ellis Island how did the choose their final distination and how did they travel there. My understanding is that many of the Greeks from Crete were brought to this via Labour Agents to cover areas that had "Strikers"
@sandracaravanos32574 жыл бұрын
They say it's a myth that the names of the Passengers from Europe ie Greece were not change on Ellis Island but I have seen names different on the Manifest then the names were at birth on Manifests. So I am wondering at what point or where were the names shortened, changed and why. And for the pour souls that did not survive the travel what did the Shipping company do with the remains of these people.

Would like to see a video on the quarantine islands of Hoffman and Swineburg Islands in New York harbor which were used by New York officials at Ellis Islands to quarantine passengers who might be infected. Video on the Ellis Island hospital and where to possible find hospital records for the Ellis Island hospital would be great.

Hi, is there anyway to find out what happened to certain passengers after they passed through Ellis Island?
@tedarchdeacon64436 жыл бұрын
The ship companies that transported these passengers kept detailed passenger lists, called "ship manifests" which were used to examine immigrants upon arrival in the United States. Thanks to the generous efforts of volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, these manifests have been transcribed into this vast digitized archive, which you can navigate for free in search of an individual passenger.

I once (a long time ago) met a young man who was he stated lucky enough to be Angela's neighbor. He said she was elegant, honest and a very classy lady. Just like her comments above. I have enjoyed many movies and television roles she has been in and have suffered through drugs with one of my children. I wish you many more years and a happy 90th birthday next month. I'm blessed to have my mother living and she is 95! God Bless You and your family. Thank you from my heart. Cherie Dale
