I have absolutely zero movement in my lower back/hips in this position. When i want to come forward, it is impossible to maintain a neutral spine and I break neutrality at the low back. Any tips?
@stretchitapp5 күн бұрын
Hi! Thank you for your question. It’s quite common to struggle with maintaining a neutral spine in the pancake stretch, especially if hip mobility is limited. Sitting higher in this position (on blocks or a rolled-up towel) will help you stay more upright and reduce the strain on your lower back. This adjustment enables you to tip your hips forward more easily, promoting better anterior tilt. When you start folding forward, lead with your hips and aim to keep a flat back as much as possible, rounding only at the end of your range. Consistent practice and focusing on hip mobility will gradually improve this. Hope this helps! ❤

Its my first time doing this and I felt lots of pain in my hip joints and uncomfortable. How long do you think it could take me to be comfortable provided I commit to these exercises twice a day?
@stretchitapp20 күн бұрын
Stretching should be uncomfortable at the end range of your motion, but not painful. Keeping the discomfort level around a 5 out of 10 instead of higher can help ensure that you are stretching safely and not causing stress on your ligaments. If you experience dull discomfort, you’re likely doing it right! If there’s a sharp, burning pain, that’s your body telling you to back off and go a little easier. Stretching sensation changes with time. It feels uncomfortable at first, and turns into pleasant with practice ❤ With consistent practice twice a day, you'll start noticing improvements in your flexibility and comfort within a few weeks, but this can vary depending on many factors, e.g. your prior experience, your overall exercise regimen, any injuries acquired in the past, etc. Please keep in mind there are no shortcuts to flexibility. It takes time. So listen to your body and be patient. Hope this helps!

This is a really helpful video thank you! Just curious, do you support doing over splits? I found an article saying how bad over splits are for your hips in the long run.
@stretchitapp-espanol2 ай бұрын
We’re glad to hear the video was helpful! Thank you for your feedback and the question. While different articles may prove or disprove various theories, oversplits are generally safe with the right preparation, flexibility, and guidance. However, if you’re still far from achieving a flat split, we don’t recommend attempting oversplits, as it can increase the risk of injury. Some people may be able to work toward oversplits without a full flat split, but this should be done carefully - ideally with a coach. It’s also important to avoid risky techniques like pushing the hips down or bouncing, as these can increase the chance of injury. Hope this helps! ❤

I always find hard to breath while doing this. When should I inhale and exhale? And should I hold my breath while doing this?
@stretchitapp3 ай бұрын
Inhale as you lift your chest, expanding the front of your body. Hold that position, and as you exhale, relax and let your chest lower closer to the floor. For more on breathing techniques during stretching exercises, check out our Recovery Breathing video on the STRETCHIT app (Classes on the bottom menu -> STRETCHIT Fundamentals).
