Amazing footage it truly is an amazing place and region. I’ve been there twice on sailing catamarans but limited exploring into Fatu Hiva as the anchorage can be a challenge. Beautiful shots.

My wife and I visited Fatu Hiva this past December, the fulfillment of a life-long dream for me ever since reading Heyerdahl's book when it was first published in 1974. The experience exceeded even my wildest expectations, and your beautiful video masterfully shows why. The landscapes are truly other-worldly. Hopefully, the entire island will finally be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site later this year. Thank you for sharing this.

so how long did it take you from start to finish?

It all depends how fast you can hike 900 meters of elevation gain. If is humid or not. Sometimes air there is extremely humid and hot so is much harder to hike. I DO NOT recommend to hike if there was not 2 days or dry weather. Bring a lot of water if is humid day. 3 hours up should be enough. If you are very fast it could be faster. Some people need much more time than others because many factors. This trial is never the same, It can be overgrown in some points, slippery, or even you can have some landslide in some places. But it can be done with not problems if you do some hikes. Good weather is a key

Spectacular! Most comprehensive video on the island of Fatu Hiva that I've ever seen. I kept looking for the place Thor Heyerdahl went over to the east side. Hard to tell. Must have been at a high spot in the interior. I remember some video by a Scandinavian guy who did that hike with a local. Nowhere near as clear as your video though. You'd love Kauai by the way.

Thank You. We had a little limited time in Fatu Hiva. Around Christmas there is very limited transport. This is very mountainous Island and a rock there was not that solid. So I guess it will take some time to do some hikes We went to Kauai before. Unreal place. I wish to come back to do Napali Coast complete hike

Apparently they were dropped off by boat at the valley where Heyerdahl and his wife spent time with the "cannibal", then hiked over the mountains somewhere to get to the west side. I was just wondering how they made it over the ridge. Hard to tell from your video. @@pkmexplorers

Wow nice footage. We hiked it last year and were the only people that took the route through the valley, instead of going around like what all the groups are doing. The climb @5:00 really, really terrified me, especially with heavy backpack w/ tent and food. It felt like one slip and you would crash down, especially because of the flaky rocks. But looks like you managed this well!
