This seems like a dream job, but can anyone speak to how common this kind of work environment is? In nature vs construction sites, or side of the road?
@globalsurveyor14 күн бұрын
Hi there. I run my own business so I can be picky on the types of jobs I take. I do work in urban environments but lucky also to get out into the scrub. I'd say its a 60% urban and 40% rural/ bush for me.... Never on sides of the road or construction however if that interests you, you can always work for companies who do that sort of work. Surveying thankfully allows you to experience all of it....

@globalsurveyor Thanks for the response. Owning my own business may be my goal in the future. I like the idea of owning your time, the varied work environments, and doing the office works and drawings too, but I wouldn't want to be couped up in the office all day. I don't think you can beat working in nature like you did in this video. Almost like you read my mind with your comment. I'm afraid I'll get stuck working on busy construction sites, urban environments or on the side of the road. Gonna have to check out the rest of your channel.

@globalsurveyor19 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes I use the GS18 for all preliminary work which saves time setting up tripod and traversing. Nothing worse than traversing only to find nothing there. Once the mark is found, I can plan how to measure it properly with a total station although the GS18 observations are very accurate and in this case, I'll no doubt take them for this mark.

8:22, Do these kinds of mistakes get updated in a statewide database or..? Apologies for the ignorance, I'm a software dev looking to move into surveying and have found myself going through your videos. Like you said in this video "you could be stuck in an office", which is me at the moment. Surveying looks like a nice mix of some office and field work. It looks like there are a few different avenues in obtaining qualifications and different levels to that too (I'm Qld based). Do you have any recommendations on which approach to take?
@globalsurveyor22 күн бұрын
Hi there. Yes the mistakes do get updated, if a new survey plan is registered but on occasions like this I'm not making a new plan for registration so unfortunatley other Surveyors will pull their hair out like me looking for marks. If updating the plans was a simple process or we could add some notes to a separate document accompanying the plan, it may help the next Surveyor. Not sure if that will ever happen. I studied at USQ - Toowoomba and did a Bach.Spatial Science (Surveying) although my course was by correspondence. Thats a good option, or study through TAFE to begin with and perhaps get some work experience etc. We do things slightly different in NSW but the ideas are the same. Thanks for watching. Feel free to ask any questions if decide to take up Surveying!

Done too much work in the bush. Any fence within a metre is “spot on”. Cockies (farmers) just put it close, and that considered close. They’re not interested in millimetres. Don’t get me started on fences on river banks… they just put them where they can between trees they never follow the boundaries. Most bush stuff has a setback of 10m plus so nobody is going anywhere near their boundaries for this reason, better safely in . Your property than potentially next door

We hang a plumb bob from points on the ceiling in the underground mine. I think that with this system we can install a Total Station on the projection of the point on the ceiling without plumb line. Do you think this is possible?
@globalsurveyor2 ай бұрын
Hi there. Yes with the carrier inverted the laser plummet could project a point upon the ceiling. Not sure how high above the working surface the ceiling is, but it could work. Then you can middle up on the ground to the point above you. The specs say 1mm acc. per 1.5m so at say 3m above thats 2mm acc... I could try a make a video of the laser and see. Let me know if you try it.
@okanserin48912 ай бұрын
The gallery ceiling will be approximately 4 meters from the trestle. I hope I can install with 2-3 mm accuracy. I may order 1 piece to test the system. I will let you know when I test it. Thank you for your support.
@benjaminshropshire29002 ай бұрын
In addition to the benefits to the next surveyor, another reason it might have been done that way is, if it's just far enough inside the property, the neighbor likely has little if any say in the matter (or obligation to pay for it). At a guess, the little buttresses sticking out from the wall exactly matched the survey line.
@globalsurveyor2 ай бұрын
Well spotted. I didn't consider the buttress but i'd say youre correct on the buttress beingon the boundary line. The wall fronts council land / road so I assume the owner would have paid for it themselves.

Hi , can we fix/lock the tribrach when we turn it upside down?
@globalsurveyor2 ай бұрын
Hi. Great question. Turning it upside down to use the laser on a ceiling etc.... the adapter cannot be locked. But if the adapter is up the correct way, it is locked in the tribrach so if you were to carry it on your shoulder, it wont fall out. I might make a video on that thanks.

How accurate would you say it is? could you record a point with the autopole been out of level then remove the autopole and stake that same point plumbing you rod, and give us the results.
@globalsurveyor2 ай бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for the question. I havent tried that as yet but I will. Stay tuned for a video. With gear like this I've been a bit cautious measureing things. I've made multiple measurements on the same point just to ensure no errors. Then meaned them up. The mean point is only millimetres in difference. But i will test this and let you know.
