Did you use an offset wrench to unthread that cleanout cap? I'll have to try that!

I used a combination/open-end wrench for the cap and then used a pipe wrench to turn. So if using 2 wrenches means offset wrench, then yes. 👍

And how are you preventing it from happening again? Peppermint oil only lasts so long and getting it into that area is tough. My ‘23 was just taken to the shop and I bet I have this issue too, waiting on the callback. For my tractor I use peppermint oil and keep the hood up as mice can get in it. So now I need to do this on my Tac??? This is not making me happy to keep my Tac as I think so could do the repair myself but don’t have the time now.
@iceplant126 күн бұрын
@@kylewittet3717 good question. I honestly haven’t kept up with it. I did have mouse traps everywhere in my garage. Would catch a lot of shrews, rarely mice. And I had rat traps and got a chipmunk. The culprit wasn’t either of those so I got rid of the rat traps and just kept the mouse traps. I also used Irish spring soap and placed it everywhere. Even on my tires under the wheel well at night. Eventually the Irish spring loses its strong scent so you have to keep buying it. I haven’t been doing anything this season so I’m really just testing my luck at this point. Also it was July when the mouse did that, which was odd to me that it didn’t happen in winter and I had parked in the garage for 4 years before that happened. Unrelated: I just noticed I have a coolant leak coming from the passenger side, looks like possibly the coolant bypass line towards the front and I’ve seen others have a leak from the plastic joint in the back (the plastic clip that I broke in this video when removing the original harness) I don’t believe my leak is coming from that joint, so I have to investigate. It’s a minor leak, more like an extremely slow drip/seep. So stay tuned for that repair video! Also looking to insulate my garage and better seal it to keep rodents out, as I mentioned a chipmunk was inside the garage. Thanks for commenting and I understand it’s frustrating when you don’t have time to do the repair, but it costs you more money than you’re happy to pay. I had a 2nd vehicle at the time so I was able to get by while I ordered everything I needed. Good luck and please let me know what ends up happening. ✌️

Very nice video. I wish Toyota kept making the Toyota Corolla matrix instead of discontinuing it, and then just turning the Corolla into a hatchback. Many people didn’t know about the matrix because Toyota did not do a very good job with advertising it for the 10 years that it was out. I also had 3 different corollas over the years. I can honestly say I had never heard of this before. I can see two uses for this (outside of flooding). The first is as you did - after an oil change. But the second is if you have a second car that rarely gets driven - perhaps once a month or even less - you could crank it for 5 seconds using this method before starting it. Infact I had often wondered whether such a thing was possible, specifically on account of the second scenario. It would seem that all modern EFI cars will do this.

Hand tight oil filter! Really
@iceplant13 ай бұрын
@@mracer8 I get your point, but most oil filters state to tighten 1/4 turn to 1 full turn after the gasket makes contact. The torque spec for a Mobil 1 M1-103A oil filter is 18-20 foot pounds. I’ve never used a tool to torque an oil filter because it’s generally not recommended in the real world. From google: “Why to hand tighten: Using a tool to tighten an oil filter can cause it to be over-tightened, which can crush or bend the filter gasket and lead to a leak.” “Never use a wrench to screw on an oil filter. Unless you are quite weak-wristed, hand-tight will be fine. Besides, as mentioned above, the heat of your engine will tighten the seal rather quickly. This is why you might need a wrench to remove a ‘hand tight’ filter after three thousand miles of driving.”
@mracer83 ай бұрын
@@iceplant1 my wrist is very very weak. Specially when I am upside down in tight spot. To be honest. I always hand tight and then use a wrench to torque it maybe 1/8-1/16 of a turn.

Hmmmmmm I’ve tied this over two oil changes one with doing this and without. Engine is moving in either case. The oil light went out quicker when I let the engine start up normal vs waiting for cranking to put the light out. Also you just drained and filled the oil so there is plenty of film on moving parts for the 2-4 seconds for the filter to prime. I’m not convinced this is saving you anything. My Toyota went 394,000 before I sold it and I never tried this with it (2007 Yaris)

I really tend to agree on this; I've never pre-filled an oil filter either. Seems like a bit of hair splitting at play. Suppose I'm not really worried about getting 300k miles at this point, as that would only happen beyond my lifetime.
@WX4GPS3 ай бұрын
I would even think at some point you would have to consider the detrimental use of the starter for 20 to 30 seconds and the drain on the battery. Certainly you’re slightly shortening the life of those two products cranking the car several times until the oil light goes off lol but nobody looks at it that way.
Do not put your foot on the brake, that was what you did wrong.
