I actually feel like the Archer chain cuts fast, but it seems to leave a washboard look. Ive switched to the Forester chain and like it better. Thanks for the comment.

I picked that up a couple years ago. It's a propane tank hauling trailer. Works great for grabbing logs.

I don't see it. It specifically said the maximum cut width and it was bigger then the ones I got. You have to understand the 48" mill is maid for a 48" bar. Not a 48" cut width. To get the maximum width out of any mill you have to have a bar longer then the mill is rated for. So a 48 would need a minimum of a 52" bar. With that you may have to leave the end sprocket guard off. I see one that is pretty highly rated I'll add the link here but I really have no idea how good it is. If you have some more questions I can try doing a video too those specific questions. What is the brand and model of the mill?
@graftedbranch44802 жыл бұрын
I bought this on Amazon. I'm not 100% satisfied but it does work. The Max cutting width on this is about 44 inches with my 56 in bar. There are other that are closer to 46. I saved about $50 but another couple of inches of width would have been nice. JMTAAT Portable Chainsaw Mill... www.amazon.com/dp/B082KGZ9R3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Originally this was used as a Propane tank hauler. to drop new tanks at new houses. I bought it for $300 off market place. Just bought an electric winch for it. Now I have to figure out how to mount it. lol

I simply forgot to put it in low gear. In high it won't pick up the logs. My brain was occupied with other circumstances at the time and I didn't remember to switch to low range. Once I remembered we had already picked up both logs using the hand winch. No biggie just more exercise I didn't want lol

Washboard caused by a) uneven pressure, or b) a one cutter longer than others, Or c) damaged/ bent cutter, or d) rocking the jig; hope this helps

TIP: Sharpen or swap chains BEFORE ** you feel it get dull and cut slows down ( or earlier if it bogs/ quits (may have hit metal?); Use bar-mount jig or (newer) DUAL file sharpener Jig that files cutter and depth gage at same time. EVEN cutters and EVEN height depth gages will also reduce vibration. You getting pretty small dust in some cuts vs chips. (** If you learn 5-cuts gets it dull, then change or sharpen at 4 to 4-1/2?)
@graftedbranch44803 жыл бұрын
I hear you. I'm learning here and honestly I'm a little stubborn. When it dulls at one and a half passes I get a little frustrated. But I'm learning that some of these woods just take more effort, and attention to details. I just put together my first loop of ripping chain last night. I'm going to see how long that lasts before needing a sharpen. Thanks for your input

Thanks Ken. I recommend you keep an eye out for one of these trailers. For the low budget or new guy, they are perfect. This way you don't have to mill everything on site. Have a blessed day
@jadkins8813 жыл бұрын
Do you have to use a special chain on your saw to rip like that, or is it the same as when you cut a tree cross ways
@graftedbranch44803 жыл бұрын
It is standard in chainsaw milling to use a specific ripping chain. Which is filed at 10* this slows the chain to stay sharp allot longer. These chains are also more expensive. I use the standard cross cut chains and just file more often.
