I'm a black guy, married to a coloured woman. Love my wife a lot. We stay in a predominantly so-called black area of Diepkloof extention, phase3 in Soweto. So some young kids can't differentiate between a coloured and a white person. At times I would overhear them talking saying "yoooh muhle lo mlungu" Which means " this white lady looks beautiful." 😂

The world is becoming increasingly mixed. There is no such human animal that is genetically pure. Why is it that only Coloured people have to define where they fit into the human genome? These questions are not asked of Zulus or Xhosas, who could also be mixed. I am a very, very proud Coloured person and if you should ask me to define myself, I'll tell you in typical Coloured fashion 'to f'ck off'

0:13 correction: Coloreds would like to be white but they can't, they look nothing white and whites don't like them so they buld resentment towards black people. So they call themselves colored.

I've never thought I'd be looking for short stories to share but here we are. I am a teacher and deal with a lot of issues my children have with their parents. This time is to help a young lady find a way to speak to her mom. I am hoping she finds the courage to sit down with her and sort things out. How we have a generation that trusts their teachers more than they do their parents is heartbreaking, here's to hoping for the best.

Hi @afikile, thank youo much for sharing your story. Firstly, we salute you for being the teacher students CAN turn to in the absence of supportive parents. You're doing such valuable work. Secondly, we want to share with you some of our free What's Your Story? resources, which may be helpful for you and your students in building trust and understanding amongst one another, and also in their families. www.heartlines.org.za/wys/church/for-families If you have any further questions, please feel free to email [email protected]
