Glass aquariums are highly not recommended for this breed of turtle. Box turtles need to have reference of an object or wall by color, and glass does not have this. I often recommend putting colorful wall paper on the outside of the aquarium facing in, and only approximately 3" up from the bottom. This way everyone wins, you get to see your turtle and he won't run into the glass and be stressed. He's a super cool Boxy

i own 2 three toed box turtles mine never did that all they do is breed every day but they could be saying which ones dominate do you know whats the difference between breeding and dominance cause i don't

Great names! I hope to have room for an aquatic tank someday, I know some people who work to rescue red eared sliders and would love to give a home to one or two :) Griffin was almost 2 years old in this video, but now he's almost 5. I got him at the Canadian Reptile Breeders Expo in Mississauga, Ontario in June 2008. It was important to me to ensure he wasn't a wild capture, so the breeders expo was the place to go :)

Is it fun feeding him by hand I have a three toed turtle and I feed him strawberries!;) he's just so darn cute when he eats strawberies!

If it's still a baby, you should feed it daily. If it's older than 1 year, you can feed every other day. I give Griffin a mix of fruits and veggies such as romaine lettuce (never iceburg lettuce), red pepper, corn, cooked carrots, banana, raspberries and cantaloupe. For protein he also gets Mazuri aquatic turtle pellets mixed in, or live crickets (from the pet store), and earthworms and pillbugs I find outside. Thank you! He is mainly an indoor turtle. I live in Ontario, so we only have appropriate outdoor weather between May and September. I take him out into the yard on sunny, warm afternoons. Once I have a place of my own I'll build a secure outdoor enclosure for nice days :)

Is he more indoors or do you bring him out a lot? He has nice coloring :)
