I was getting a "musty" smell in the bathrooms/kitchen. Checked all the vents which were not cloged. The smell was never sewer smelling. I used Rock salt for a few months and smell went away. Came back and will try it again. Here is the thing, (IMOH), if roots get in your main pipes and it also has cracks and you get a clog. Then you call a plumber and they use an agressive auger on the roto rooter it can bust apart already cracked pipes. I often wonder when you see the contractors replacing main sewer lines under slab/front yard if it started with a root problem. If the homeowner used rocksalt may have avoided/posponed costly drain line replacement caused by overly agressive plumber with roto rooter! Thanks for sharing 3 years later!

Do yourself self a favor. Keep your pets away from the rock salt and copper sulfate. It will kill them quick. So if you pour it in the drain and it backs up and gets on the floor and any remnants of those chemicals get on there paws it's over. So becareful using this stuff.
