75 cm gauge? I think it is 76 cm Bosnian guage, which was used widely in the former Austrian-Hungarian empire. 75 cm guage was typical for German lines

If more passengers are buying on line and e-tickets then ticket offices are less needed. Large stations like Birmingham New Street would never close. It’s far too busy. Smaller stations is what they focusing on.

I notice that the Midland Spinner in this footage has a different livery here than how it is currently preserved. I couldn’t find much info on it or why it was converted from No. 118 to No. 673. My only guess is that the brief period it was re-steamed in the 80s might’ve played a role.

I've seen all four of these locos in person and they're all beautiful. The Spinner and 158A are possibly my favourites Only shame is that the North London Railway 4-4-0T and other pre-grouping locos set aside in Crewe for preservation ended up being scrapped.

I took a lot of these railway lines up working for a sheffield scrap company as a young boy in my first job after leaving school.. it was freezing most of the time i remember we had an old railway guards breaking carriage with a cast iron pot bellied stove we burnt hundreds of the old wooden chocks that were used to fix the railway line into the cast iron chairs in it .. we used to eat our meals there ..happy times .

I really enjoyed this, but unfortunately the final part showing Broom Junction only shows the one signal box and not the other one that still exists and can be seen as a ruin at the side of the Evesham By-pass (A46).It was a pre WW2 design that could be used as a defensive pill box in the event of invasion, it was so toughly built that it will last a good many years yet!

a thought .... many people seem to like the 'pay as you go' (PAYG) system and the govt. might want to see this almost everywhere but with the smart cards linked in to our personal accounts at the CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) system that is expected to be introduced in 2024. The PAYG fares payment system is what has significantly reduced the need for many passengers (who do not have prepaid season tickets) to go to ticket offices at the start of each journey.

I recently went to an Elizabeth line ticket office as in the past I've had a bad experience with a 'collect from station ticket' (see below*) and whilst everything went well I later discovered that the National Rail website was offering cheaper fares! My visit to the ticket office was on a Friday and my travel was to be on a Sunday and apparently there is a type of return ticket called "Sunday Out Return" which I've never heard of before. Obviously both the person in the ticket office and the ticket sales machines used in ticket offices also did not know about these cheaper Sunday-only tickets. *The problem I had with the 'collect at station' ticket was that the self-service machine at the ticket office malfunctioned whilst printing an InterCity day return London - Manchester and only gave me a few of the paper tickets required for my journey. However it still told the ticket sales system that my tickets had been printed. In the end Virgin Trains resolved the situation in my favour but nevertheless this completely changed my views on using self-service ticket vending machines.

Very interesting film but I thought it was funny how the engineer stepped on the rail when getting on his engine. I was always told not to do that as it might be slippery and you could fall and hit your head on an adjacent rail.

sooooooo basically, IT IS the inrercity APT-F from the 1980s, with exact same spec, complete with central power car, which WE the tax payer, paid millions to develop, which the gov then sold to FIAT, who in turn franchised the designs, and we`re now paying, to buy back, the train. WE designed, but our left wing snow flake gov, convinced us, it was rubbish and we are now buying back! at the cost of nearly £1 BILLION pounds? THIS IS INSANE!!!! the GOV should be held to account over this!
