Thanks. In Ventimiglia the restaurants on the beach seaside are good for quality and price. I recommend LA GIARA. Quality, quantity, good price and nice staff. In Menton L'Hexagon or places around Place du Cap.

I'm a proud genoese and I've watched several yt videos about my hometown and yours is one of the best! It captures several perspectives of the city. You have only missed an unusual but amazing spot: the monumental cemetery. I'm pretty sure Genoa is really underrated....

You are not right, you are... absolutely right! Staglieno cemetery is a treasure of Genoa. A city in the city, full of incredible art. When I uploaded the video I regretted and I was sad because the Cemetery was initially planned to be on the list. But for some reasons the last editing didn't include it. One of them was that I decided not to close with a note of death. Because the monuments of Staglieno celebrate life but inevitably of course death. They are marvelous but dark in the tone. And the length of the video also was an issue. A video only about the cemetery is planned. It is so vast that needs an entire video dedicated. Thanks a lot for your review.

🇮🇹ITALIAN MENTONE, A HISTORY TO REWRITE (google translate) In ancient times, Mentone was a village that developed after the year 1000 under the name of Poipino (from Podium pini). In the 13th century a castle was built there which, from the name of the founder, Ottone, Count of Ventimiglia, was called Mons Othonis. Later it belonged to the Del Carretto family and in 1379 it passed to the Grimaldi family of Monaco. Menton and the other beautiful neighboring town of Roccabruna were under Monegasque domination until 1848, when, rebelling against the authoritarian prince Florestano, they obtained annexation to the Kingdom of Sardinia by virtue of the principle of freedom and nationality, as well as their Italian nationality. feelings. These two centres, following the Plombières agreements, passed to France in 1861, after the cession of the County of Nice. The centuries-old Italian and Ligurian culture was gradually marginalised and extinguished, even if there was no shortage of initiatives to defend Ligurian traditions. In particular, between the two world wars, a movement called "A Barma Grande" emerged to protect the dialectal and literary heritage of western Liguria, in the border area with Italy. The movement was joined by Ligurian and Italian writers and men of letters from the countries transferred to France with the Treaty of Turin between Napoleon III and Vittorio Emanule II. Among the most prominent names are Luigi Firpo, from Mentona, who suffered serious reprisals from the French after the war, and others from Monaco, Ventimiglia, Pigna and Seborga who successfully joined the defence of Ligurian culture in France. In 2012, a day of rediscovery of Italianness and ligusticity on the Côte d'Azur took place in Nice, at the headquarters of the Italian consulate in that city, and, recently, after a long period of misunderstandings and opposing propaganda due more to politics than to the true feeling of the people and intellectual honesty, the French authorities themselves, starting with the local authorities, have timidly begun to re-evaluate the wealth of the indispensable historical contribution of Italian culture in the French region that borders us. In other words, even the French institutions seem despite everything, but with a fierce dogmatism, to take note of the not too serene affair of the transfer of Nice and its surroundings.

I feel like Venti has the potential to be the best town in Liguria, it has everything there but does seem like it is abandoned and the new town is being built up with lots of apartment blocks which is sad, they still have not started to fix that footbridge which was broken 4 years ago and the beaches do get full of rubbish. There is the immigrant situation although ive never heard of anything bad happening from it, in fact you will rarely see them maybe only at the train station. The food is much cheaper than in Menton and better. Menton is still an unofficial italian town, if you go there you will hear more italian being spoken and every person in the shops/ markets will speak both italian and french. Menton is quickly becoming a very expensive area (maybe it was always like that?) but the holiday rental prices are even higher than the other French Riviera which is insane. The old town with the beach is stunning. At the moment i would prefer to go to Menton but overall id choose Venti especially when the footbridge is fixed and the immigration is solved. I really like it there.

Menton was Mentone, an italian town, also Nice was Nizza before the french deitalianize it at the end of XIX century. Most of the people living in Nice/NIzza, moved to Ventimiglia in order not to become french.

Yes indeed it's a sad situation. As I saw the two countries managed the issue differently. In Menton there's no one apart from tourists or tourism workers. I don't know what laws are they using to do that. In Ventimiglia the situation is not tragic like it was. There are migrants, they sell on streets, but it's not an uncontrolled homeless or refugee camp situation.

Strange before the Euro, Italy used to be a cheap country. Food is now on EU level, and the prices on accomodation makes tourists go to Greece, Turkia or Spain where tourists can get a more affordable vacation. What is the strategy here..?
