Hi Diane, I learned from Pamela that they are silk cigarette cards (1900-1936). I saw in London's antique markets so much lovely ephemera but mostly not very cheap.

Also,I must ask about that map,it’s amazing,and what do all of those little cats with the numbers on them represent?

The London Cat Map, Londoners, along with the rest of the UK, love their cats.The designers of this tea towel have picked out some of their favourite quirky cats of London to illustrate and create the purr-fest plan (cat related stories, works of art and historical anecdotes).

Ok I sort of understand this tea towel now,but not completely,and that’s ok,as cats are the funny mystery,they always have been,they always will be. A simple meow can mean sooo much!

Last year,in 2023,I found an incredible vein of sherds. I found 4 tiny bits of those ,ah,I want to call them intaglios,but no. The little Bartmann seals,ahh what are they called?? Anyway,it was a very good day on the foreshore,north side.

I love the research afterwards. The Thames seems to be an endless treasure box. They have changed the rules to get the permits and it means that after next three years my mudlarking will find its end. No further permits for foreigners. I hope you are doing well and enjoy the autumn rains!

@@marybarratt2649 PLO (Port of London Authority) gives the permit for 4000 mudlarkers and from now on only for one year. I still have my three year permit, I was lucky to prolong just on time before the new regulations. After that one year you have to apply a new one through a waiting list (waiting list is long 6000 people of more) so it means you will not get the next one in many years. I'm going to try on the Rhein foreshore and maybe Netherlands next year.

Hello Mary, I was so glad I had enough time to really walk through these markets and I had lovely chats with the vendors too. Next time I would love to visit a Sunday antique market in Wimbledon. What are you looking for when you are visiting the markets?

@@FindsByPirjo I like all sorts of things. Last week I got some lace, old ephemera, a hand warmer (metal box with holes in that you put live charcoals inside) Victorian I think, a vintage sewing basket, an old black baby doll from the forties, an old picture of an oriental girl, very sweet. I’m drawn to social history, I like objects that show how we used to live. I got an old flat iron too on a metal stand. I should video my hauls really but I’ve lost interest.

Hallo Hans, ich hab es noch nicht bis Rhein geschafft. Hier laufe ich neben die Felder und ab und zu finde einen Knopf oder Scherbe (nur mit Augen). Ich würde ja gern Metal Detektor probieren aber es ist ja nicht so einfach hierzulande einen Kurs zu bekommen. Grüße aus Steinau an der Straße!
