Drew - Good question. There is a 5 mile+/- section after Dead Horse Ranch State Park where runners are to stay to the center of the trail. This means no passing or stepping off of the trail. This section will be marked with "No Passing" signs.
@SteveAderholt12 күн бұрын
Danelle - Good question. Foxboro to Crystal Point can easily be driven in a passenger vehicle. In fact, all of the Sedona Canyons 125 crew access aid stations can be accessed in a standard passenger vehicle. NOTE - The drive from Sedona to Foxboro Ranch - Vehicles should NOT drive up Schenbly Hill road directly from Sedona. Crew vehicles will need to drive south out of Sedona through the Village of Oak Creek to access I-17 and then on to Foxboro Ranch.

Fun Bit: The Mexican Owls are altering the Coco 250 Event. The Ferruginous Hawks are party to reducing or eliminating a 75 Thousand Acre wind debacle in the Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington... a Green Fiasco that would cost property owners a floor of $2 Billion in valuations. It is a joy to turn Green Environmental Extremism against itself. Cheers.

I'm sorry if this was mentioned somewhere in the video, but is it safe to assume that these changes (including the number of runners allowed) will be the new norm for this mileage?
@danellesoto577627 күн бұрын
I personally think they want this race to grow, so I think they will attempt to increase numbers with the forest service every year or at least try. Maybe once the population of Mexican spotted owls reaches a certain number, they will allow for more participants?

I have ample fine memories from experiencing the 250 miles of Cocodona in 2022. What an amazing experience -- the time of the year is just right -- not too hot, it never got super cold, there was no precipitation, and the best part -- the days were nice and long (six full weeks into the Spring). The course had a good mix of challenges, climbs, long stretches of winding trails with distant scenic views (example: going down Mingus to Jerome). Although the course is well marked / flagged, the GPX tracks on a GAIA GPS can be very useful (I am navigationally challenged). Great Food -- Each AS has a menu and they typically have an abundance of what is on the menu. Use your drop bags to supplement with your favorite trail calories / hydration mix. The Volunteers were top-cabin ... I arrived at the Schnebly AS and sank into a chair... one of the volunteers looked me right in the eye and said "You really look like you could use a cold beer." How, I ask, did he know? Two cold beers later, the AS Captain looks at me and says "Listen, I know this isn't Western States, but I am going to dump your ass out of that chair in two minutes." The whole event was like that ... just top-notch Disney E-Ticket Quality. After the event, we received an email with the opportunity to fill out an online survey. I filled in my survey with all manner of suggestions. A week later, I consult the RD and get back a statement, to the effect that X, Y, Z of my suggestions will be implemented in the following year -- sure enough, I check with friends that ran in 2023, 2024 ... the event gets successively better each year. One of my all time favorite memories was climbing Eldon on the morning of Day 6 ... it's around 2:30am ... I can see the sparkles of headlamps up the trail... Somewhere near "the top" where the trail levels out, I felt a Presence of Light... I turned and saw the soft orange glow of a still distant sunrise. I stopped and just lived in that moment ... only eight miles to the finish with six hours to go . . . my presence of mind compelled me to take a photo. That single photo brings back the entirety of the Cocodona 250 Experience. My best friend is going to Live the Cocodona 250 Experience this year. I have the opportunity to crew and possibly pace a section. If you are running this event, please take the time for the sleep stations -- serious rest is essential in order to fully enjoy the magnitude of this event. You have 125 hours to saturate in the joy and beauty of this course, the new friendships and the sensation of touching the periphery of your abilities, so make the most of it. Thank you, the Aravaipa Team, for creating this experience that will be party to the apex memories over the duration of my life.
@danellesoto577628 күн бұрын
I ran the year you did and got to Elden on the last day. I got to watch that special sunrise. My pacer took a picture of me resting against a rock and looking up at that sunrise-it’s my favorite picture. I was just thinking, “what a ride!”. When I started this race I worried I might not finish, but the power of the community (volunteers, crew, pacers) got me there and all I could feel was gratitude at the top of that mountain…and a little sadness that it was all coming to an end. This race is truly special. Steven Aderholt is such a great RD and has done such an excellent job to manage the race with all these obstacles/ challenges. If you are doing it this year, you won’t be disappointed! Get ready for what will be one of the most special moments of your life!

@@danellesoto5776 Yes - the sense of this story reaching its conclusion was evident as the light filled the day and it was "all downhill" into Flagstaff. Keep on sharing your story with those who can benefit -- and possibly experience the 250 miles of magic on their own two feet. Cheers!

By your closing comments, can we take that to mean that there are no cutoffs at the aid stations and still just remains at 27 hours for the whole course? I intend to hike the distance and be out there a while. The 27 hours total is what caused me to sign up for this particular race.
@ericandbeethoven26 күн бұрын
There likely will be some cut-offs but still very generous (eg If it takes 20 h to get to the first Aid Station). Almost assuredly, there will be a mandatory gear check if you are not past the 1st / 2nd aid station by a specified cut-off. Here, they will mandate you have sufficient cold weather gear. Oh and I have finished DFL in every Aravaipa race I've done so you'll have company.
@denniss864426 күн бұрын
@@ericandbeethoven I hope you're right. However, the runner guide does have cutoffs and it looks like they're about 2 MPH (roughly). This year is different because there are aid stations just for this distance. That hasn't been the case in years past; sharing stations with the 250 made keeping them open for Elden runners an easy decision. But I fear that this year they will have significantly tighter cutoffs because they can't just keep those stations open on end to serve 1 distance.
