Without a doubt, one of the best Keyshot professionals on KZbin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I created the project and the "physical" product of a paint gallon made of crystal acrylic. But I must admit, it was easier to produce the product through all stages of production, CNC machining, laser cutting, etc., than to create an animation with a 100% professional result. Even rendering or animating the product on a black background is extremely challenging to achieve a realistic outcome. Please, if possible, consider making a tutorial on something similar. I would be delighted to provide you with the file if you'd like.

What material did you used for the buckle body
@alperen_tunceli14 күн бұрын
Great tutorial. But I want to ask you something about the sample values that you use on final rendering. I usually set it around 150~180 to get the render done in about 4~5 hours (I have AMD 1920X CPU by the way) with lighting fixtures. But 4000 samples... isn't it too much (or too heavy for the machine to handle)? I mean, if it's the optimum amount to get rid of the firefly effects I understand but 4000 samples could take a lot of time I presume. So, could you explain a bit more about "selecting correct sample amount depending on a material" please?
@WillGibbons13 күн бұрын
Hmm, 4-5 hours for a single image to hit 150-180 samples on that CPU sounds really slow. I'd expect that to take no more than 5 minutes. I suspect something odd is happening. Are you using all the cores that CPU has to offer? What resolution are you rendering at? And is there a chance that NURBs rendering is enabled (if so, it'll slow things down substantially). In my case, I can typically reach 4,000 samples in CPU mode in around 20 minutes, though it will depend on several factors. The only thing you need to do is set up a region render on a noisy area and let it sit until it looks good and see how many samples it shows in the real-time view. That's the exact process I use to determine how many samples to render to, regardless of the material.
@alperen_tunceli12 күн бұрын
@@WillGibbons I took mostly street light renderings with PC lenses (partially frosted and partially clear plastic) and rough painted exterior and with emissive materials for LEDs... and you're right, I use NURBs due to the close-up images are looks better in my settings (by the way, i'm not consider myself as an expert on keyshot but relatively i do good enough renders -with no post work-) the real issue begins with the lenses mostly, unless i set 40~50 on global illum., i can't get enough quality on my renders. And again due to all of these, i had to set the sample value at least 130-ish when i take renders with mixed glossed lenses. also i should mention that below 50 samples it'll be definitely fireflies. my usual settings are (3000x3000px - 600dpi - PNG - All CPU Cores - 128 Samples - 1,5 pixel blur - 40 Global Illum. - Interior Mode with Caustics - model with NURBs) also I explode polysurfaces on Rhino to dissect and regroup-rejoin-layered up surfaces by the material that i want to use. then i import them into the keyshot. sorry for the long answer, frankly i didn't expect that quick response :)

I do have a question, i did the exact same step, and my final product doesn’t look even close to a “real” stainless finish. It still looks like a computer basic render.. do you have any clue on why ?
@WillGibbons13 күн бұрын
This probably comes down to a few things: 1. Not enough detail or imperfections 2. Overly simplified lighting 3. Your knowledge that it was indeed rendered These are not unique to stainless steel, but all materials and renderings. It's something that can take time to improve upon.

It could be. KeyShot's docking system hasn't ever been that great historically. May come down to the specific release and build (mac/windows) etc.

@@WillGibbons I also sadly discovered, thanks to your tutorials, that Keyshot has this weird approach of importing the model into different model sets if not chgecking out all the boxes, even though you chose to import the model into a new model set. Weird logics behind this option.

Perhaps in the older version. I don't think it does this anymore.
@WizardVal22 күн бұрын
@@WillGibbons It does now I am on 2023.1. And I need to go manually into the next unchecked window and scroll down and manually uncheck a few model sets. It is really kind of a different logic to this software, but its GPU render time is unbeatable so, I believe I need to get used to. Also if you don't mind, I can't find an export option where you can export only a specific model. Like in 3d max you select a model and click- Export selected or even Save selected and you end up with clean model not the whole scene. Sorry if I sound dumb:)

It depends on what industry you wish to work in. If you want to be an industrial designer who is hired by a company that makes hardgoods, then Solidworks or Autodesk Fusion would be ideal. If you want to do softgoods, then either Rhino or Marvellous or Clo3D would be appropriate. If you are not sure yet, but you want to create more visual effects and animations, then Blender would be good. Hope that helps!

@WillGibbons23 күн бұрын
KeyShot? It's the sole focus of my business, so I see it as a business expense. If I didn't pay for KeyShot, I would have nothing to teach. KeyShot may cost about $1200/yr, but it earns me more than 100x that per year, so it's a worthy investment.

Even if CAD data is driven by curves and surfaces, the software is still tesselating the model for the viewport. Exporting that data for use in something like Blender is no different. You lose the original CAD data, but the rendering is still the same, no?
@WillGibbonsАй бұрын
Actually, I don't believe it is the same. In the viewport, you're seeing NURBs data as rasterized graphics, but not ray traced. I can't say with 100% certainty since I haven't studied computer graphics in a broad sense. But the data is not undergoing any transformation to be displayed on screen as far as I know.

@WillGibbonsАй бұрын
When splitting surfaces, you will get those moving apart with displacement. But there is a slider in the displacement settings that can reduce or increase those gaps you see when surfaces break apart.

Thank you for the great video. When I import an animated FBX file into KeyShot 2024.2 Pro, the animation keyframes are included, but no geometry appears in the viewport. This issue occurs with FBX files exported from Blender or Mixamo. Even when the geometry does transfer over, it remains fixed and doesn't move, despite it being an animated FBX. Do you know how to resolve this?
@WillGibbonsАй бұрын
Not off the top of my head. I have seen a mixamo model import into KeyShot just fine with animation, but there's something that's probably off in Blender's export settings in order to preserve that animation. Short of suggesting all the options via trial and error, I don't think I have a good solution right now.

I've never used Blenderkit. I'm thinking you'd either need to export your scene as FBX (will probably need to re-create materials in KeyShot) or potentially try USD format which should bake the textures into the models.
