Interesting views. Makes me wonder if all of us aren't becoming immune to the national debt simply because it hasn't bitten us badly over the past few decades. As for bonds vs bond funds, as an individual who has bought and sold some US Treasuries in the past, I realize the selling price is set by the market -- unless you hold until maturity at which point you get face value. Which is NOT the case with the price / NAV of basic bond funds (in my case, BND, BNDX and VCOBX). As there is no maturity date on these types of bond funds, if I need / want to sell it will be at some fluctuating market price. Meaning if I bought shares at a high, I might never see that high again and will sell at a capital loss.

Unfortunately, not all of us were financially literate early, I was 35 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps. I went from $176,000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but l'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $400,000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling! Thanks Natalie Rose Strayer.

Invest judiciously, keep a stop loss figure. Shuffle between debt and equity wherever the ratio goes too off your target. As for the target, I recommend a Ratio like this Debt % should be equal to your age in years. If you are 20, debt is 20%, reset in equity. If the market falls or rises drastically, your debt % will change, which you should rebalance to 20% and bring back equity to 80%. Thus you would have bought low or booked profit depending on if it was a crash or a bull run.

Effective personal finance management is more important than the amount of money saved, regardless of whether income is earned through job or investment. Individuals can seek counsel from a certified financial advisor to optimize financial outcomes, who can provide specialized advice and methods to decrease expenses and maximize income.
@monicawill5Ай бұрын
I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.
@Johnlarry12Ай бұрын
I think this is something I should do, but I've been stalling for a long time now. I don't really know which firm to work with; I feel they are all the same but it seems you’ve got it all worked out with the firm you work with so i surely wouldn’t mind a recommendation.

I'm new to investing and trying to make sense of all the conflicting advice on asset allocation. On one hand, ETFs and index funds seem like a safe bet because they offer broad diversification and lower risk. On the other hand, some argue that individual stocks, if chosen wisely, can potentially provide much higher returns. I understand both options have their trade-offs, but I'm struggling to figure out which strategy makes the most sense for someone starting out who also wants room for growth
@Joe900-px3ntАй бұрын
I’m nearing retirement myself and was feeling the same uncertainty. I got a later start on investing, so depending solely on ETF growth just wasn’t making the impact I needed. Working with a financial advisor, though, changed a lot for me. I restructured my investments, and now, I’m confidently on track for a $5 million retirement. I honestly don’t think I’d have this kind of peace of mind without that advice
