When I lived in Albany, the Miss Albany was always a treat. Would have loved a couple stills from Ironweed, but we can't everything. Great video, and brought back a lot of memories.

My Dad served as Master Chief on this sub back in the late 80's. I was lucky enough to be up in the mast during the launch ceremony at Newport News Shipbuilding, and I sounded the horn as she was sliding down the rails. It is a childhood memory I will never forget.

What an accomplishment! My dad served on DE-246 and I hope to one day tour a ship like the one her served on during WW-II. Hat off to such a wonderful group!

Sadly, the first captain of the Schooner AMERICA, Alex Greenson, who is featured so prominently in this video has just passed away. He will be missed by many. www.the-triton.com/2020/10/friends-mourn-sudden-passing-of-veteran-captain/

@@firenze312 thank you. It absolutely crushed me. I only found out he was sick a few days before he died. I was on my way to Connecticut to say my goodbyes. Then I was informed that he had passed at 2 AM. We were going to have a memorial on the 24th of this month in Plymouth buckets post pond again because of the Covid.

For those interested... as the Commanding Officer of the ship is, by rank, a Commander (O-5) in the Navy. That is equivalent to a Lt. Colonel in the other armed forces. However, per Navy Tradition, the Captain of the ship (a position) is always called "Captain"... so the Commander is called "Captain" while in Command of a ship (as would any other rank). But, the navy also has a Captain rank (O-6) which is equivalent to a Colonel. The Freeze frame could have more accurately said... CDR (which is how you abbreviate the Navy rank Commander) Darl. R. Anderson Commanding Officer, USS Albany. or even Captain of the USS Albany Also for those interested... all navy rank abbreviations are in all capital letters while other services only capitalize the first letter.

Hi. Could you tell me how the main propeller shaft to the screw is sealed against allowing ingress of seawater into the aft propulsion spaces of the pressure hull?

This ship name on Greek Navy was Name: Aetos (D01) Acquired: 1 March 1951 Decommissioned: 5 July 1991 According to some researchers AETOS-Slater was the real ship which is used on philadelpheia experiment and not LEON-Eldridge. But both of them have some "problems". maybe Eldridge was buffed whith some abilities to confuse people from clues

The many volunteers that maintain the Slater have brought her back from the near dead..although the cost of repairing her power plant for getting under way on her own is in the millions and prohibative. I am a former NAVY radioman 1967-1971. Thanks for taking a look

Interestingly, the USS Slater while serving in the Greek Royal Navy (1951-1991) was the protagonist in several movies greek & american as well, including the famous "Guns of Navarone" (see link below) and the greek "Alice in the navy" !
