I am now 30 years old and overcome my video game addiction - it was a painful and difficult process for me, and I had to do it on my own except for cameron ? from r/stopgaming. Long story short: I am glad that this generation has alok and his knowledge about this topic.

Excellent speaker. 37:50 EnlightED didn't like him criticizing social media. It is made clear whenever social media was brought up in this talk. It appears as though the organizers don't actually have the people's best interests in mind. Just trying to keep people's attention on videogames. Similar to the gun industry in America. Even making the old, debunked claim of videogames being connected to violence in real life. Although the games industry is definitely concerning, other industries are hoping to keep using games as a scapegoat. Typical, and shameful corruption. At least they brought a good doctor on stage to talk.

However I don’t think they are really trying to use video games as a scapegoat here, they’re acknowledging that some can be addictive but also pointing out that not all of them are.

@@redpepper74 Ya, that was strange that they avoided acknowledging social media addiction. I figure that they're using video games as a scapegoat by avoiding acknowledging negative effects of social media, and choosing to focus on video games. Even though there's obvious similarities. Maybe scapegoat isn't exactly the right word, but to me it looks like a diversion. Social media is shady stuff. It didn't seem like they talked about some games being addictive, and some not. But personally I agree that some are much more addictive than others. Like, if you compare a "zachtronics" game to more mainstream games. But I think an emotional dependence can be developed for most videogames these days. As they're designed to feel rewarding, and have a gameplay loop. Although, this is mainly a concern for people who are vulnerable to developing such dependencies.
