"Lead Sled" or "custom", not "Shoe-box"..... Shoe box is a term used to describe hot rodded 50's cars and "gassers" with stock, or raised ride height, often with straight front axle. Shoe Boxes usually dont have a chopped roof-line, and channeled body, as this car does here. The car here is obviously a Lead Slead, or a "Custom", referring to the widespread use of lead used during the body-work process, a tradition with cars of this type. People like Gene Winfield and George Barris were the originators of the Custom, later referred to as Lead Sled.

Google Ford shoebox and see what pops up...'49-'51 Fords are shoeboxes. Raised cars are gassers. A shoebox can be a custom, gasser or lead sled but it's still a '49-'51 ford car no matter how you build it

I dont go by what "Google" says.......Much of Google is Complete BS....I've been a drag racer and builder for over 40 yrs, and no one in the group of people I hang with ( professional builders) would refer to this custom 50's style leadslead as a "shoebox".@@ninja63639

Whats with people taking Pickup Trucks, and lowering the back ends all the way to the ground? No one ever did that in the 1940s, 50s, or even the 60s.
