Pause the game and hold down left and C. This will make your ship invincible. You can do this at the beginning of every level. If you try this a second time while playing the same level you disable this cheat.

I read somewhere that this game was intended for release in North America. It’s a shame that it wasn’t, really. I mean, spectacular graphics and intense gameplay, and challenging difficulty make for an opportunity missed.
