Our government doesn't care. We are just pawns in the game of greedy politicians clawing their way to the top of the food chain. Notice the number of homeless veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan? I think they are going through worse conditions than Vietnam veterans faced after coming home. If I had known in 1981 what I know now, I would have never given 8 years of my life to the U.S. Army, and I was never even in a war zone.

I have an idea that you weren't alive back then. The Vietnam War wasn't a popular war, and most people didn't even care about what was happening unless they had a brother, son, husband, etc, serving there. I was about 9 years old when he was awarded the MOH, and I remember seeing the nightly news with scenes from the Vietnam War, and they were very short. I tend to think that his award ceremony with the president was televised, but like everything else about the war, it would have been a mere few minutes. That's why it took damn near 25 years after the war for our country to acknowledge the sacrifice these men paid for absolutely nothing.

One of the major impacts of the raid that is pretty much never mentioned is the fact that the Japanese delayed a scheduled changeover in their Naval codes so as not to disrupt the emergency search for the US carriers that launched the attack. It was during that time when the Japanese continued to use the JN-25b code that the US code breakers famously developed the intelligence that allowed US strategic victory at Coral Sea in early May, AND the intelligence that gave the US advanced knowledge of the Japanese attack at Midway in early June. Had the Japanese gone through with the changeover of their code to the new JN-25c version, US code breakers would have been "blinded" for some weeks or even months while they cracked the new code, and the Battle of the Coral Sea AND the Battle of Midway would almost surely have gone very differently than they did.

Yes. You have 90 days from the date of marriage to make changes to your TRICARE health plan. Otherwise you might have to wait until open season (usually mid-Nov to mid-Dec). In the thumbnail photo on the left my grandfather is standing there behind Bob Howard (Boonie cap) and Eldon Bargewell. He was a Recon Marine. To this day I have no idea what he went through, but I know he left Vietnam with 2 Purple Hearts, An Air Medal with a V Device, and a Silver Star. One day I hope to learn more about him. Finding this video is shedding light on who he was and what he was doing in Vietnam.

To say this, in a lot of words: The A-10C offers excellent maneuverability at low airspeeds and altitude while maintaining a highly accurate weapons-delivery platform. They can loiter near battle areas for extended periods of time, are capable of austere landings and operate under 1,000-foot ceilings (303.3 meters) with 1.5-mile (2.4 kilometers) visibility. Additionally, with the capability of carrying precision guided munitions and unguided munitions, they can employ above, below and in the weather. Their wide combat radius and short takeoff and landing capability permit operations in and out of locations near front lines. Using night vision goggles, A-10C pilots can conduct their missions during darkness. Thunderbolt IIs have Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS), goggle compatible single-seat cockpits forward of their wings, Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems, and a large bubble canopy which provides pilots all-around vision. The pilots are protected by titanium armor that also protects parts of the flight-control system. The redundant primary structural sections allow the aircraft to enjoy better survivability during close air support than previous aircraft. The aircraft can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high explosive projectiles up to 23mm. Their self-sealing fuel cells are protected by internal and external foam. Manual systems back up their redundant hydraulic flight-control systems. This permits pilots to fly and land when hydraulic power is lost.

Very few footage shows the South Korean marines. These guys had a fearsome reputation with the communists. I have read about thier combat prowess. They were feared by the enemy for sure!
