great review! though! this has also an expression function which for some reason everyone omits for some reason?
@Johannfrank10 ай бұрын
Exp function is really straight forward, compared to the innovations highlighted here.. but it’s an awesome and mighty function, especially now that builders start omitting the exp pedal from their multi effects units!
@i.b.l.b5627Ай бұрын
@@Johannfrank so how would you use the input and expession input at tha same time if the volume is controlled in green mode and wah in blue..how do you control the expression out???
@JohannfrankАй бұрын
@@i.b.l.b5627 you can’t do both. It’s either a volume+wah, chained and powered like a regular pedal, or an EXP, plugged into a multi effect (Ampero, etc). Hence why I focus on the vol+wah function because to me, it’s the where this pedal really breaks ground. However the one plus side of the EXP function is: the pedal doesn’t need power in that mode. So, that can be a plus depending on your rig. Hope this helps!

Ok but which sounds better and is just better?? Hx stomp or ampero?
@Johannfrank Жыл бұрын
It’s such a broad question or broad statement .. like what’s better, Strat or LesPaul. Purely qualitatively however, the Hotone partnership with Celestion IRs would give it a leg up in “better sounding” unit. But you can load those onto the HX too. The HX platform is way better (thus far) in terms of user friendliness.. but that might change over the updates Hotone puts out. At the end of the day we are now working with evolving machines instead of idle products, which is what makes it super exciting.

I want to put a pod go in the effects loop of either hx stomp or ampero stomp. Im looking for the pre amps and amps. You say they are good are they definitely better than hx?
@Johannfrank Жыл бұрын
Their partnership with celestion made the Ampero a real top of the liner when it comes to IRs, correct. As a matter of fact, I often use the Ampero unit just for amps alone, sometimes with the HX Stomp after for all my stereo effects.

Hi Johann. Thanks for posting this. I have a Kemper, but I want something smaller. For rehearsel and small gigs. Thinking about making 3 patches. Clean, crunch and lead. Maybe adding the small 2 button switch. Is it possible to make 2 identical chains (but make one chain louder) and use a switch to switch between them? To add some volume if needed?

I've never used it as EXP, because it's just too good as a vol/wah. It's almost a shame to use the EXP function, which would cancel out these 2 functions. I transferred my Soul Press 1 over to EXP duties, though! Super small footprint and works well.

Hey Charles. Great question. NO scratch, which is awesome and unheard of yet in my experience! I did have to tighten a couple screws inside the pedal, with great and clear instructions from the service dept at Hotone, because it started wiggling laterally... which one could expect after 100s of unforgiving foot movements! It was quick and easy. It's good as new still.

Is there any other modeler you would recommend over the Ampero II? I can spend a little more if it's worth it but I am not a pro. I just play at home- mostly to my dog. I was considering a new FM3 but it seems annoying to use with it's out dated UI- unless I use the PC. Is it "that" much better? I am not really a Line 6 guy. Thanks- anyone???
@Johannfrank Жыл бұрын
There are many good ones out there! You have to see what fits you, and spend the time to learn how to talk to it and manage it efficiently and quickly. The HX Stomp is amongst the ones that I now see everywhere from guitarists to bassists to keyboardists' rigs. I've done entire shows just with that and a footswitch, and Line 6 are great with updates. My rec is just get yourself some good IRs. Now Fractal, Kemper, UA are all top notch companies and make great stuff. My 2nd recommendation is, do your research and once you acquire the piece, log 100s of hours on it to know the modeler in and out. All of them can send a spaceship to the moon in terms of CPU , yet most players only use a fraction of their abilities. It's up to us to make the best of it!
@MOAB-UT Жыл бұрын
@@Johannfrank Thanks. I get all that but was hoping for a more specific recommendation. I do not have 100 hours to test before buying. If you had $1,000 or less, which one would you consider? Main contenders are FM3, Ampero II, Line 6 product, etc.? I am not a pro doing shows- just want good tone and relatively simple to use. The Ampero II is only $400- seems to check many of the boxes- no? Is the FM3 that much better for a casual, at home player?

Hi Johann,thanks for a great review. I play medium sized gigs with a very small amp(Blues Junior) trying to keep the sound as clean as possible (by micing). Is this gorgeous little SP2 going to overdrive my amp? (I've heard it increases gain and grain. Thanks so much, keep them coming 👍
@Johannfrank2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Love the Blues Jr., I still use mine quite a bit. This Wah will do! It doesn't OD amps nearly as much as other Wahs, though keep in mind that you do drive certain frequencies up quite a bit (it's the purpose). So if your amp gain is past 6-7, it'll start breaking up... But that's the beauty of a 15W amp. If it does, turn the Q knob down a bit! You'll still get the wah effect without driving the eq as hard:)
