I hopped this freight several time 1989-91 and rode from Willits to Ferndale. Got caught on an open flat car one winter and almost froze to death 10 hours exposed to the elements with sections of track floating over the rail bed that was washed out.

Mini-DV. For some reason I was unable to transfer the recording digitally, so I ended up doing an analog transfer from a screen. I hope to revisit this sometime to get a better quality video YouTub, but wouldn't monetize it because they said I didn't add enough value and just posted raw video. (through fancy editing, narration, etc I guess there is a high level of expectation).

Outside was about 30 below zero ,full moon at night Moose ,elk eagles all still from the cold Much of the that portion of the trip was 20 mph or less.We had a lay over at small town .Id loved to explore but didnt want to miss my train.I held my sleepy eyes open until through tunnel was huge and full of zigzags then woke the train running full tilt on the flat lands

The State of California should had purchased in fee easements across all private properties and converted the NWPRR into an ecogroovy bike path from Eureka to Willits. Turn maintenance over to Caltrans. Turn the patrol and care of primitive bikepacking camps over to the State Parks. It could be a fantastic bikepath.

Yes. I am familiar with the Great Redwood Trsil governmental organization. I attended their inaugural meeting. The director was a bureaucrat in the County of Humboldt Heakth & Human Services Department. They need someone in the Director role eho is knowledgeable about creating such trails and the necessary acquisitions of easements and construction. Like a professional civil engineer. But what do I know? I’m a registered professional engineer. Go figure.

I would just like to add ever since the track washed out in the winter of 1997/1998, I constantly communicated to our member of Congress and our State Senator and State Assemblymembet, multiple people over the years, to covert tge railroad into a bike trail. 27 years later and still nothing.

If I have lots of money, I would buy me a H2 Hummer vehicle and put some wheels like a train that you can either put it up or down so I can still use it on the road and back to the train tracks again. Also make a custom made trailer at the back to haul it and put all my food and water and some camping gears and tools and emergency kit to survive. Weapons too just in case there's some wild animals around. I love this video. Thank you for showing this.
