Hi @leegrantham , great video! Thanks again. I just wanted to ask what your training approach was to Subida Al Pico Veleta before you moved to Granada ? As mentioned in the video, I guess if you can’t move to the location it’s about making the best of what you have, uphill treadmill, hilly long runs etc. I’d love to give this race a shot but of course it’s hard to simulate with living in the UK. I aim to travel to Granada April/May time for a couple of weeks, get a feel for the course! 😄

Thank you!!! I follow you for running content so this was a random, welcome surprise but using supplemental oxygen is literally doping. If Everest is difficult largely from hypoxia and you negate that, it's like finishing an ironman on an eBike. What was the point?

Hmmm I don’t agree on this one. Yes of course you should be very well prepared. But there is no need to move to the area of the race to complete it (if you want to win:yes). You will just go a lot slower. Using your logic, most people should not be allowed to ski because they never train for it and only go once a year to the mountains, and then put many peoples lives at risk (other skiers, rescuers and themselves). If you move to the mountains to go train you also put other peoples lives at risk. If you go train alone in the mountains, there’s also a chance you need to be rescued at some point and then no one is around, you need to call them and make sure they find you. At an organised event, they are zt least prepared to deal with situations like that.

As a 2:18 marathon runner I did long quality running. It wasn't slow. But looking back I am not so sure I needed 120 miles a week to achieve the results. I really like how you explain the how not everyone doesn't have to run the same program. Listen to this guy for I think he knows what he is talking about. Must be a good coach.

I pulled my lower right calf/soleus muscle a few days ago and this video pops up - thank you. Luckily no bruises or marks on calf. It has gotten slightly better, but I’m still only able to heel walk on that foot. What is your experience with this type of injury? I know it varies, but how long did / does this type of injury take to recover from, and when will one be able to start running again? 48 year old male runner here who has been running for about 3 years. Thank you Brother

It's not a nice injury, but it's common and easy to fix. Strengthen the calves, and specifically the relationship between the Achilles, Soleus and gastroc muscles. I'll try to find a video. It doesn't sound severe, but I'd see a Physio as soon as you can.

I'm an anomaly. When I was younger, I would go long. Slow and long, grind it out. Now that I'm older, I prefer specific. I think that's backwards from a lot of people. Usually as they get older, they give up on speed and just go longer, slower.

I always lost weight if I ran on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Didnt event need to be many km’s. Burns fat and speeds up metabolism. But in general to lose weight you really need to have a clean diet (good proteins, lots of veg, and no junk), and consistently be in a daily calorie deficit. For reference I’m 6ft, 78kg and have 5% body fat. Now I’m training for a marathon and it’s really easy to keep off.

@billythekidnax
@billythekidnax Күн бұрын
The best confidence booster for marathon prep, in my experience, is a solid long run of about 30-35K, with 20-25K at marathon pace-feeling like I could sustain that same pace for 30K if needed. If I can hit that, then on race day, with the benefits of tapering, adrenaline, and sheer willpower, I trust that 42.2K at a similar pace is within reach. That kind of run takes a serious toll. Recovery afterward is long and necessary, but it’s worth it for the mental and physical edge it gives me. For a half marathon, though, the approach is much simpler. If I can go all out for 10K, that’s usually enough to feel confident about running a strong half. With a proper taper and slightly easing off the pace compared to a 10K race, I know I’ll have enough to push through the full 21.1K.

@billythekidnax 17 сағат бұрын
@@suranperera4620 Are you referring to the week before an event? I'm still learning and figuring things out myself. Personally, if the last three weeks weren’t too tough, I don’t feel the need to make the week before too easy. But if things were really challenging leading up to last week, then it makes sense to ease up. I tend to prefer maintaining distance but going easier on pace, even though the traditional approach suggests keeping the intensity high while reducing volume.

Good video Lee! I agree I have never understood why people say mileage miles and mileage 5-6 times week is more important than a good long run…. For me I feel it’s better to get in a good long run for the half 13-15 miles , with rest days during week. Or a 19-21 miler for marathon with rest days long runs feel way better. My best half came from when I did a 14 miler week before my half and I crushed it both times I did 13-14 miler week before. Mileage mileage mileage with shorter long runs just leaves me feeling fatigued …. I guess everybody’s different long run is important

Hey Lee thanks! hope your doing well also! been in kinda of running slump lately, 15-16 mile long runs have been feeling tough lately and im 4 weeks out from myrtle beach half and full marathon. So im thinking about just doing the half, Ive also cut out the heavy upper body and heavy lower body work and just using light weight for deadlifts legs and core. As i feel lighter higher reps just fatigue me less during running. It sucks to have cut out heavy lifting but at end of day i feel WAYYYY better running long distance when im not bulked up. If i do half marathon do you think doing a 13-14 mile long run with 1 mile repeats followed by easy miles help? like 1 mile slow 1 mile half pace , 1 mile slow , 1 mile fast? or are 1 mile repeats really good for half marathon distance?
