I love the way the movie was made. Anne Roussel is my favorite french actress. She is so stunning, so beautiful here. If you get a chance see Mahler from Le Maitre De Musique (1968), I advice - do it. It's the most sublime theme I have ever heard. It's sheer genius and I'm not even sure it can be replicated as it is there, it's insanely beautiful.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Anne Roussel is acting Royalty of France and oh my god! Is she the most beautiful woman you've ever seen or what?

You could easily understand why the people would clap so. For one, it is rare that such a woman's physical beauty would go combined w such a level of raw talent. But in addition to that, people running around in those circles, they enjoyed themselves yes but they took the nature of their craft very seriously (opera) and were very, very disciplined in it's practice. As well as, it was also a sign of status among the people who really matter - namely the "cultured" upper classes - royalty.

Brava ! Bravo ! One of my favourite films. I hope that there are DVDs available to purchase. At the time that I acquired my copy, I found none in music stores and only one on-line. I was so moved by the Mahler excerpt at the end that I posted a video with the complete van Dam recording + several images from the film.
