This response is strictly based upon this application, the 6 units recommended are the CD5224 Infratech. We are recommending the use of a control panel that will allow the adjustability of the heaters output. The main electrical source (Main Feed) will be 163 amps (125% FLA), Inside the custom control panel are 6 sets of relays and breakers. From the control panel each heater will have its own connection. The Electrician is to provide the main breaker and determine the appropriate location of the control panel install as well as all manufactures installation requirements of the equipment during their installation of the whole system.

Hi, Steve & thanks for the informative vid! (BTW, what s/w package are you using for these renderings?) I am agonizing over propane vs. infrared vs. commercial hot-air blower. I live in Maryland with an average winter temp around 40F. I am *mainly* concerned about keeping feet warm underneath the gathering table: feet are not exposed to the heating element of choice, so the hot air option would *seem* to be the preference. I have a roughly 11'x16' covered porch area that slopes from about 10.5' against the house to 7.5' at the outer edge. I have 30 mil vinyl tarps to seasonally enclose the space and have a central ceiling fan. Many thanks for any tips.

Can you clarify the difference between the first set of 4 vs the 2nd set of 4? Also assuming no wind, under what temperatures could you reasonably expect to stay warm with this setup? Thanks
@patioheat3 ай бұрын
Speaking of Sets I'm assuming you are inquiring about the Electric Heaters 6K vs 5K units? The better for this application is to use more than 2 of the 6K and so we have an issue of too much overlapping of heat rays. That is why I switched to the 4 ea. of the 5K units so that the overlapping rays between the two units are less. As far as comfort level each individual is different. Most can appreciate the output of a properly mounted heater near the 50º (F) level. If you are acclimated to a much cooler temperature then a lower ambient is acceptable. I have worked with customers in very cold climates and they have sent images of their enjoyment during the snow fall days.

This such obscure heating solution video that I need to comment that way if my dad sees it after me I have proof I saw it first. He is always the most comfortable with his knowledge. I enjoyed this video and would have to tend to agree that if you were to use a gas heater that the area would have to be protected from the wind with controlled air flow, such as a fan on low speed on a side table could produce for the wind protected area, such as, a wall or whatever your situation could be. Watched this at 8 veiws btw!!
@patioheat5 ай бұрын
The main reply we made in this video was to inform viewers that an Electric Infratech is the best solution / type of outdoor heater in windy applications. To reiterate the fact that true infrared heat is a "light wave" and will travel through air (wind) and will absorb into solid objects, floors, tables, chairs and the human body. Moving air within an open structure will only alter the temperature through convection. Cold air passing an object it will decrease its temperature. The faster air moves around an object the quicker the object changes in temperature so blocking the wind helps reduce the necessity for more heat on windy days for human comfort. Gas heaters in areas where the air is moving greater than 10 - 12 mph fluctuate there performance because the flame is being push around and is not getting the emitter (ceramic on a Sunpak) to its proper temperature for full infrared (light wave) heat output. (we do not recommend placing a fan around a heater to move air around or through it as it increases the turbulence causing a drop in its function as well as a possible improper ventilation). Thanks for the comment!

Wow! Thank you so much Steve! I appreciate you making this video so fast! It was really helpful to hear how you would mount the heaters perpendicular against the slope. I hadn’t thought about a chain. I had been thinking about making wooden brackets that would come out of the ceiling and then attach to the extension brackets. Do you think that would be a good option? There’s no safety concern there, is there? Thanks again! Awesome info! 😊
@patioheat6 ай бұрын
You are welcome, I am not keen on the idea of using wooden brackets personally because you still need to maintain that 6 inches of clearance above the heater, which means you would have to incorporate using a steel noncombustible item. You could always use a steel square pipe that mimics a piece of wood, however it doesn't need to be very large. It could be a one by one inch square. The heaters only weigh approximately 18 pounds so two brackets holding 18 pounds is not very much. I hope this helps. Thanks again.

You're videos are excellent! Thank you for all the time and effort you put into them. In this example, could the heaters be hung from the ceiling, but perpendicular to the suggested placement, perhaps with an extended bracket on one side? Or would they have to be on the horizontal beam? I'm asking because our set up is somewhat similar to this one. Thank you @patioheat!

Hello, I'm looking to install CD6024 units on the ceiling, located on the periphery and pointing in towards the room. Do I have to have it at 30 degrees, or can I increase it to 45 degrees for greater reach across the room. Thanks!
@patioheat7 ай бұрын
The CD6024 can be installed along the outer limits or edge and angled up to 45º perpendicular to the mounting bracket of the mounting plate. When "ceiling mounted" the heaters clearances increases if the angle is greater that 30º (please review the manufactures "Installation, Use and Care Manual"). The distance or pattern of ideal heat is no greater than 10' from the surface of the heaters elements. If your patio length is greater than 16' and you have two units installed at 45º along the width section towards the center of the patio (say 20' apart) the center section may not be an appreciable amount of heat. Let us know if this helps?
@BK-vx2yl7 ай бұрын
@@patioheat thanks for your reply! It would be a completely covered horizontal flat pine ceiling so would that be enough clearance if mounted to the ceiling and angled at 45 degrees? I also just emailed your support email with additional info, if that's helpful and you'd like to take a look. Thanks!!

Hi, why didn’t you try to put the heater on the beam left to the person vs the one behind him? Also what software are you using? Thanks!
@patioheat9 ай бұрын
This particular client requested to heat the sofa seating area only and that is why the focus was on that side. In the video I stated that my preferred placement was above the seating area, rays pointed straight down. Lastly they requested a gas unit and it requires much more clearances especially at an angle (off the lower beams the heater would have to drop down significantly). Sorry we don't recommend any type of software. Thank you for your question!

Sorry we are not familiar with the Pro Con heater and if it is set up for natural gas I would say "no" but if it is set up for LP than you will need to make sure the regulator you purchase is set at the proper water column (WC) pressure. I do not use any solution that may damage the gaskets of the valve. The thermocouple is a sealed part and I do not see how it can improve its performance. If it is corroded to the point of non function then I recommend replacing it. The only method I use to clean any debris from the pilot and thermocouple assembly is a soft wire brush. No on using a compressor, valve are only able to withstand 1/2 psi, if you can see down the orifice holder, down just about 1 inch to the wire mesh then its clean and there is some other type of blockage. Valves are complicated and the only recommendation at this point is to have it serviced by a qualified technician.

Just a thought, what about one heater over the sofa and angled towards the chairs and second heater over the chars and angled towards the sofa?
@patioheat Жыл бұрын
Will that work? Maybe, but it is based upon the distance the heater is to the chairs and what model you choose. There could also be a much greater heat ray throughout the crossover sections making it intolerable. Personally, I would never recommend the placement of heaters you have described. Please consider sending us your patio structure details so we can offer you a true recommendation.
@Chrissers2010 Жыл бұрын
I've noticed that you most often position the heaters pointing straight down or close to it, even on these low ceilings. What are your thoughts in doing that? As an engineer, I am thinking that the closer the heater is to being perpendicular to a person's torso (largest heat absorbing area), the better the heating. That would mean pointing them at an angle would be better. The Infratech Installation Care & Use manuals say, "Unless heaters are installed over 12' (3.7m) high, it is generally recommended that all radiant heaters be mounted on an angle to assure that radiant warmth is distributed from the sides rather than straight down on the heads and shoulders of the people being warmed."
@patioheat Жыл бұрын
My thoughts in reference to "this particular application" is that placing a SlimLine on a wall or on the perimeter of the patio will not allow the heat to be angled enough to get the light ray (infrared) in the proper angle to actually penetrate the occupied space. Every application is unique and clearances are sometimes harder to work around when the seating positions contend with the structure as well as we try our best to make it aesthetically pleasing. Yes, Infratech does state it is best to angle the units but I do not 100% agree. We are dealing with light rays and for an example, if you are sitting at a table and the heaters are positioned behind you only your back and the back of the chair will absorb the heat (your front will be in the shadow), place it over the table and the majority of the energy will be absorbed in the table. Overhead you will receive the majority of the rays. Also note that stating that the heaters installed along the parameter angled inward will heat the floor, well yes, but how long do you think this will take to heat a floor that is 60º (F) and how much convection heat will be required to keep comfortable? Hot air rises and dissipates quickly outdoors. One of Infratech's most popular products is the flush-mount units and they must be placed overhead. The only time I would recommend a heater to be functional installed at 12' off the finished floor is if the occupied space is intended for standing room. Another thing to consider is that the human body is 3 dimensional so it is best to have overlapping rays so that you feel heat from multiple sides. A last thought is how many people sit up straight when they intend to relax in their space so that only their head and shoulders receive the heat? Our purpose of this channel is to help others understand and make the best decisions when choosing their heaters. Im sure your are aware, that making these 3D animated videos takes time but in the end it I believe it is better then simply creating a website for the consumer to simply click and purchase a product that may or may not function as they hope. Thank you for your comments and questions they really help!

Four 6,000 watt heaters is 24,000 watts in total. At 240 volts that is 100 amps, which would require a breaker of 125 amps or more.
@patioheat Жыл бұрын
Yes, 100 amps at 240 Volts for 4 CD6024 or 4 WD6024 heaters, we are not electricians but I do know that in our county there is a safety margin that requires a larger breaker. We recommend you research your local codes to obtain the correct breaker size as well as any other installation requirements.
@fanningrb Жыл бұрын
Would the 6000W really be too hot in 30F weather? Do these heaters ever damage furniture like polyester seat cushions?
@patioheat Жыл бұрын
The output of energy is my main concern, the longer you sit under a higher output unit mounted at the same elevation in this case approximately 8' 9" off the finished floor and directly above you, the more radiant heat will be absorbed and after some time you will "feel" like your overheated. The 6K heater is designed for a 8' - 12'' mounting height but it also depends upon how far you are from the surface. Lets say you mount the unit along the parameter of the patio and you sat along the opposite side of where it is mounted. You will feel much less energy than if you were to sit just beneath the unit. Infrared is a lightwave and it will not heat the air, 30º F is a cold environment but just like if you were to take a walk during a sunny day at the same temperature you most likely will feel too warm if you had all insulating clothing and layers to keep you warm. So just increasing the output by placing a hotter unit will not guarantee your comfort. I can only recommend the heaters based upon the distance away and the protection from the structure surrounding the space occupied. I do acknowledge that below 50º F many will not be sufficiently heated using radiant heaters. It would be my recommendation to place several units (as we are three dimensional beings) and the one best for the distance of the mounting height. As for the questions regarding damaging furniture I have not heard a single complaint of this being an issue. Thank you for the questions.

Sure, in this example the distance from the wall to the parallel outer edge is too short to meet the clearances in that orientation. The CD6024 is 61 1/4" long and requires 18" of clearance on each side that is a total of 8' 1 1/4" the CD4024 is 39" add the combined clearance of 36" give a total of 6' 3" to meet the clearance in this orientation. Let me know if you need more information.

what regulator should be used, 11wc barbacue regulator is to limiting
@patioheat Жыл бұрын
There are two requirements of a regulator 1) the water column pressure 11 inch and 2) the volume of gas. All regulators that I have come across for barbecues generally have sufficient volume when designed for 11 inch water column pressure. Other issues I have seen in the field are overfilled tanks, which causes regulators to freeze as liquefied fuel travels into the regulator, reducing its volume capacity (is there ice forming on the surface of the regulator?). Temperature is another factor in how the liquefied propane vaporizes inside the tank, allowing gases not liquid to flow through the regulator. The last thing I have come across is kinked hoses, which reduces the amount of fuel to the heater, generally causing the pilot to reduce its flame size, not keeping the thermocouple hot. One final thing, the QCC fitting, which attaches to the regulator and tank has a safety feature design that if a small leak is present beyond that fitting, then it engages a 90% reduction in fuel flow.

Reducing the amount of air movement in an outdoor environment can reduce the amount of radiant heat requirement. Making this "fixed" configuration limits the type of occupied space in the patio.
