Narrow boat living started when the canals were the main way to transport bulk around the country. The whole family lived on there. Very like the big US trucks where the driver and sometimes his partner live in the back of the truck. Caravanners will recognise 90% of the features and living space on the boat.

Yeah sweety (yes I talk to Surinamese a lot (I live in Holland)) the housing problem is huge here, there is no more land to build on, so they started to build flowting houses everywhere now but they kost millions. In the 60ties and 70tie hippies started to live on boats. After my devorce I had to live in squatters with junkies, drug dealers and mentally ill violent people for 6 years for I could not get a little place for myself. Now I do and I often cry happy tears to be warm dry and safe, so do the people that live on boats in Holland, you understand.

Yes the bank details requirement is used to help prove identity and was also originally brought in to make money laundering more difficult! We do have something called the Direct Debit Guarantee though which means if someone does use your bank details for unlawful purposes to set up a direct Debit then the bank will refund you! British credit and debit cards also have a unique 3 digit security code and you dont tell people that, you just enter it into the payment machine or into a security box online and money cant come out unless you have that 3 digit pin!

Oh i dont agree with them on the Supermarkets! Well not in \General I would say that since the pandemic and Brexit there isnt as much choice as there used to be but if they were going into a larger tesco or Asda there is still plenty of variety!

Whinging americans, first we have one currency, pound sterling. We have plenty of food choices, especially breakfast cereals . You give bank details so they can be checked, your not giving them access to your accounts.This is more like two americans trying to be funny, and missing the wit to deliver. Smug and nauseous. Best Wishes to you and your family for 2025 xxxx.

If you give bank details like account number Sort code it's for paying into ,and you use this too transferbetween friends instantly so if i was too put monies into my daughter's account using phone app it will be there in around 1 minute, we have plenty of food options but because we don't fill the food full of chemicals it has a limited shelf life , so we don't over stock the shelves with unnecessary options as it would generate too much waste.

We have the same Pound Sterling throughout the UK but minted by different banks. The bank of England mints the English coins and prints the English notes and the Bank of Scotland does theirs but they are the same currencies. Northern Ireland has their own too.

We call these Barges and in the summer it's an awesome place to live on a Barge. Thanks Island Girlz and a Happy and Peaceful new Year to you too. Love and hugs from Ireland xx

1. It's just account number & Sort code, you cannot commit fraud with these. 2. Americans have more variety of the same chemicals.
@adrianboardman1623 сағат бұрын
The way I explain it is your Sort Code is your Postcode, your account number is the number of the house. It's over simple I know, but for all intents and purposes it's a pretty good way to explain it.

I was interested to hear the lack of variety comments and wondered where they had been looking. All the major supermarkets have massive selections of cereals and anything you can think of. However a small village shop will only have a small selection. I thought Eggnog was something you made yourself, whereas Advocaat is the one you buy?

We in the United Kingdom are made up of four countries, they have their own design of the bank notes but it'll still be Stirling. The Channel Islands, Isle Of Man will have another version, and Southern Ireland will have yet another from that of Northern Ireland as the latter comes under United Kingdom Southern Ireland and that which boarders NI are no longer part of the UK

I'm Dutch. Born and raised. The Netherlands is a good country. It used to be better. A few decades ago, there was more tolerance. But I think, that is the world we live in, nowadays. Also with the weather. That was also better, back in the days. And I'm 5'9. Under the average of men. That's 6'2.
@JJ-of1ir6 сағат бұрын
Eggnog is called Advocaat (advo car) over here and its made in the Netherlands by a company called Wernicks. (Vernicks) It is probably a little different in taste to yours in America, but I think its lovely. My dad used to make us a 'Snowball' every Christmas by adding a hefty amount of lemonade to a half measure of Advocaat in a tall glass. Best of all he would add a candied cherry on a cocktail stick to 'decorate' our very own grown-up drink. Eyes as round as gob-stoppers, we felt very grown up too. Many years later I now make the 'Snowballs' (with a full measure of Advocaat) and, each time I do, I remember those Christmases with my dad.

The bank information that we give to others is no different to the information that is found on cheques. Just because you know someone's bank details does not give access to their account. If you are setting up online payments using a debit/credit card, you give your card number. Again, this does not allow someone to access the account. To do so, you would need other information that is not given out. I love the way they say there is no selection, then start a list of aisles where you would find a wide selection! 😏 Here we go for quality over selection. A friend visited me from Spain. We went to the supermarket and he was amazed by the selection that we had. One sticks in my mind, and that was apples. He told me that he was used to Green, Red, and Cooking. The store we were in apparently had 15 different varieties, which I'd not noticed because I took it for granted. As for cereal, I just went online and checked the store where I get my groceries. I gave up counting when I reached 50 different varieties (I did not count own brand unless they were different to branded). How many types of breakfast cereal do they want? As for "Are you alright?", it is spelt "Yorlrite?" 😆

What these two have stated is BS! Eggs shouldn't go in the fridge and are not bleached as they are in America! It irritates me when Yanks say they find it odd when we say alright as it's like asking if they're ok well that's exactly what 'What's up' means to us but we don't bang on about it! As for variety - not sure where they are but it certainly isn't in the UK! There is a lot of variety in the supermarkets. In fact so many Americans I've spoken to or heard talking about things that they are shocked by the amount of variety in the shops! Bank accounts aren't always given. The long number on cards isn't given with account numbers. We have a lot of security on accounts including voice recognition etc, and long lists of checks we make also. We don't just hand over personal information. Egg nog is revolting that's why we don't have it. We do have Advocaat which is similar but not the same. It is equally revolting however! We only have the pound, just there is a Scottish printed one which looks different but is legal tender in the whole of the UK as it is the pound sterling just a different picture and or colour but still has the Royal emblem on it we filter our own coffee at home and you can buy filtered coffee in shops. All that these two said is rubbish! They are typical Yanks taking the piss! People we really couldn't care less about their staying or going home! No one appreciates Yanks telling that we don't speak English correctly because it's not how they say things and assume we don't get confused or annoyed when they say things which aren't correct. Particularly when they infer that we have it wrong! They appear personable and jolly but come across to me as rude and smug! They're quite disingenuous actually!

The Isle of Man has its own money too. I just sorted out my car insurance online, using my card. You also can't just rock up to any country and expect to open a bank account there, get a job or a house. You could be anybody, and your money could be from anywhere. National security and all that. @mickstaplehurst8471 Exactly, 100% agree, And the variety of food, European food is safer and better so people here stick to the good food and we do not tend to buy as much processed food. Not sure if the two in the video tried many different stores as there is loads of variety between each store. Plus, Eggnog is normally made in the home but many of us do not really like it that much but it's nearly always made in the home, not shop bought.

You can stop your boat and park anywhere. If you have a canal licence, - off you go! There are some amazing videos of people hiring a boat in Wales. One of my friends did this. He packed six people into the boat and this made it kind of cheap. Then the bunch of crazy freaks and hippies went up and down the country.

The canal network passes through a lot of citys ,towns and villages and a lot of those towns and villages are there because of the canal network from when goods were shipped by boat before trains existed, you can have a permanent mooring at a boat yard or just travel around with over seven thousand miles to explore through the beautiful quiet countryside. Theres even boats that deliver coal and firewood and in the summer ice cream boats 😃👍🇬🇧
