Selling the birds for meat 🍖 instead of selling the meat from the bird is definitely the way to go. The money is in the eggs. I sell a good laying hen for around $20 however.

@southofsanityfarms5752
@southofsanityfarms5752 Күн бұрын
We do give a banamine shot for pain and we comfort them as much as possible and do it as quick as possible. I wish we had access to stronger meds right now but that is what the vet will prescribe for us at this point and it is what they use at the clinic if they do it there. Farming is hard, and we believe this is important for people to know about as a decision as hard as it is to do and watch. We're always trying to learn more ourselves too. We absolutely hate doing this and care for our goats greatly but we have seen them die on a friend's farm by getting their heads stuck in the fences with horns and we definitely don't want that:(

@Eggdine

I can tell you care greatly for your goats but surely anyone can see that this is not an acceptable level of pain control. There needs to be local anaesthetic. An injection of banamine would be like popping some ibuprofen before receiving a hot iron to your skin. It’s really not enough especially when you’re repeating the action multiple times each side.

We would love to be able to do lidocaine, Unfortunately, Lidocaine can be toxic to goat kids and the dose toxicity is low so that is why they won't prescribe it and do banamine at the clinic. See our above response to other comments as to banamine and our care, etc. Thank you for your comment, we do care deeply about them:)

How do the changing seasons change your income/cost ratio? Quail typically stop laying during the winter unless you are providing supplemental light. So I was thinking your quail boom is just in the spring/summer and slows down the rest of the year?
@southofsanityfarms5752
@southofsanityfarms5752 5 күн бұрын
@@hollywhited8495 they slowed down in late fall and we added supplemental light and after a few weeks they were back up to regular production. We did just have some very cold weather for our part of the country a few weeks ago and since then, production has been slower. Not sure if it was just the coldness or maybe the stress of water lines freezing and not having 24/7 access to water. But this week has been nice and we are getting more eggs.

Smells like hypocrisy in here. Before you get your knickers in a twist you should know that quail prefer small spaces. They're a very skittish animal that hates being in the open and prefers to be in groups with lots of cover.

This is very informative. I found a breeder that I have used for the past ten years, and she is very good with her goats. I have purchased four does from her over the past ten years and have been very impressed and happy with the goats I bought. I bought registered does so I knew the bloodline. I don’t show, I just want milk for my family, milk for cheese and milk for soap. I also make candy with it. I really appreciate all of your videos. Do you have wire on the bottom of your quail tractor
@southofsanityfarms5752

@@JimGruver-s8h we have two different tractors. One is completely wrapped in 1/2 x1/2 wire, including the bottom. The other is the same wire over the frame with an open bottom. We have had possums dig under that one and if there is any slight dip where the frame sits on the ground then small quail can escape. Seems like with everything, there is no perfect design. They all have their pros and cons.

I have slowly been on a journey to replace as many commercial item that I use on or in my body as I can. I make my own salves and tinctures and soaps and body creams. I also can as much of my own food as I can. I garden and forage for usable plants. I also make my own solid dish soap and laundry detergent. This recipe will be my first try at shampoo bars. It has been in my list for months and this seems like the perfect recipe for my hair. Thanks for sharing. I believe that knowledge is useless if it isn’t passed on to others.

We have a small house on the countryside with a outhouse for pigs and chickens have about 0,34 acre, so it has it limits. @southofsanityfarms5752
@southofsanityfarms5752 Ай бұрын
@@silkemueller1391 yes any soap can be used for either. For our soaps, we take out the sweet almond and avocado oil out and add jojoba and Shea butter and increase the castor oil percentage for our shampoo bars. Some oils seem to be better for the hair and others for the skin. But it all comes down to a personal preference since there are so many different skin and hair types
