Eddy Merckx relied on brute strength. No one could match him in his heyday. Back then, if some scientist came forward and told him they could cut his TT time by 2 to 3 mins just by using aerobars or an aero helmet, he would have scoffed at them. There was a lot of maschismo back then. Little brain vs big muscles. Muscles always won out.

I was a bicycle courier in London in the mid 80's. This is an accurate and emotional video for me. That feeling when my tires barely touched the ground the traffic becoming a blur and the city somehow belonging just to me will never leave me. Also they paid in cash. "24, Rodger rodge"

He had to get on the juice in order to be competitive, and he had to lie about it in order to continue. He went all in. Unfortunately, as often happens in a web of lies, one must tell more and more lies in order to maintain the facade. This sort of thing has happened to a lot of people in history. Doesnt make it right but i do understand how it could happen and that era of cycling when he was winning was the only time i ever cared about who won the tour de france and that era also is the reason i got into cycling. I think the doping most likely continues in this sport to this day, albeit they have moved on to different things in order to stay ahead of the testing. Even ameatures are doping. Some day there will be another doping scandal in Cycling. Lance Armstrongs story is just another chapter in a long book that is still being written.

Of course the guy in the car in new york city is jealous and disrespectful to bike messengers. That car brained asshole won't get a dent in his stupid little car, but the biker could die. They are risking their lives and the car driver isn't risking shit sitting in their 3 ton hunk of metal. So pathetic and weak.
