@@gavinJ_ so? I have a unit full of dusty stuff that I haven’t done much with for years. Its still mine and definitely not abandoned. I agree the unlocked door is odd but highly likely someone broke in and left it open to see if anyone comes back to secure it before they start stealing stuff

I live one town over. This was a beautiful building; it is a damn shame to see what has become of it. I actually have a photo of my Great-Grandfather working on the largest gear that this shop ever produced; it's roughly 3 1/2-4' across, at the widest point.

Can remember telling my dad how many factory smoke stacks we could see while up in trees before it got dark back in the early 1960's. Thought they were bad because of the dirty smoke. He explained that every smokestack might employ a few hundred workers workers that put a roof under them& plenty of food on the table. Most have closed up. Thanks for the vidio.

@@gavinJ_ I went down an empty driveway beside the storage facility and went through the fence-although keep in mind, this was a year ago in September 2023. I’ve heard that security has ramped up a bit since then, including alarms and motion sensors.

You are looking at ,in beginning, is the remains of Indeck Energy TF powerplant that sold steam to Strathmore paper. (the old wooden buildings) It was a 23 Megawatt coal fired steam plant built 1987-1989 Around 1995 Strathmore shutdown and Indeck's electrical contract with Unitil was bought out. Indeck TF ended operations in Dec 1997.The large "tower" was the coal silo. In 2006, the main equipment was dismantled and shipped overseas ,all that's left is the concrete foundations

As to my comments on your last video, the large diesel engine, was a " back up " to the main turbine in the turbine hall, most large paper mills had their own generation plant, this was not only to supply electricity, but steam to the mills paper making machines.. Our own paper mill closed 6 years ago and the main buildings/ machines demolished, but power station remains, it had two large oil fired boilers and a turbine of around the same size as the one in your mill.. Jaeger engines were also used a variety of plant machinery, including Barber Greene loaders and road pavers of the 1950s..
@gavinJ_4 ай бұрын
Good to know! Is the power plant near you still abandoned? If so, where is it?

@gavinJ_4 ай бұрын
Erving paper is still in operation, in fact they made some stuff for this mill! Though there is an abandoned mill in erving that is very interesting
@paulkandi4 ай бұрын
Nice video guys, the mill was most likely steam horizontal engine powered at first, then converted to steam turbine ( as power station ) as can see boilers and coal feeders, finally converted,,using a big diesel engine connected to a generator set...

I’m from Easthampton, and the story behind this building becoming abandoned is that during the first superbowl the patriots got, after we won, some guy let off a bomb in one of the mill buildings (I think the one your exploring) and since then the owners never fixed it, and it’s just fallen quickly into decay, however, they are working on fixing it.
@megaaggron97786 ай бұрын
This building was owned by the hampton mills, as far as I read it was shut down in the 60s, decay from this building shows that it has been abandoned for at least 30 years. The mills shown were never bombed.
