My Father and Grandfather both worked at the Ravens Run Coal Mine, near Centralia they lived in the Patch which was Brynsville. My Aunts and Uncles were all from Mt. Carmel. They have all passed, I use to go there every summer, now an old guy of 77.

I was in centralia many times , metal detecting. Old rail bed found spikes ! Lot of railroad spikes , even talked to a few residents ! But we were respectful and bothered no one! No longer is it worth it because a bunch of idiots ruined it! But I do enjoy the memories

Great video, I remember a lot of the inner structure that was there back in the '60s was a sight to behold! The sponge rocks were called clinkers back in the day it was from burning the coal in the boilers and it was the ashes contaminated with other material like rocks and such that form those clinkers would get that in my old coal stove when I had it in my old house but not anywhere near that size. I also remember the old humble power plant that PP&l had not as large as this one though!

I can tell by the way you speak that you and i think the same way 😅 thanks for the cool video, its exciting to see something historical in this area that isnt a coal, slate, or iron mine! Its always especially neat finding abandoned towns that existed before the advent of automobiles -the landscapes/lack of engineered roads vs size of the towns never quite seem to make sense!

Im originally from one of those coal moning villages that are part of Schuykill Township, but do live in NJ now. I burn coal (2 stoves) for supplemental heat. Up until last year I stood by Lehigh Anthracite but something happened and now Lehigh coal quality is just about as bad as Reading coal quality. I used 3 tons of Blaschak last year and it was all excellent quality, (highh heat, long burns). But prices since covid have gotten to be rediculous. Do you by any chance know a supplier who has much better prices than what the large producers are charging?

My cousin Robert actually passed away in the A-hole, 5 years ago. I think he dove off of that rock you guys were talking about in the beginning, he never resurfaced but the dive team saw his shoe from the shore. Don't know if he hit his head, or if the current from the waterfall on the oposing end just held him under but he was found at least 12 feet below the surface. Deep enough that the pressure he experienced from being under water for a prolonged period of time actually prevented an open casket. Either way, super tragic and I would never wish that on anyone. Drowning and fire has to be the worst way to die.

Hey now all along Wm Penn and into Lost Creek (Loss Crick) there used to be a rail line that paralleled the road up into Shenandoah. It wraps around the mountain and links up wit the the line from Mahanoy City outside Mahanoy Plane. They still shove or pull coal up dat track tru the Buck Tunnel to Tamaqua and points south. Imagine the coal that went through that tunnel back in the day. Built the free world. No joke.

You missed the tunnel in the beginning. You have to cross Red Bridge to get to it. Oh, look! Mountain laurel (nope, rhododendron. Yep, that's definitely a canal, or maybe it's a branch of the Delaware River. (so many canals, no tow paths.) Maybe you were on one‽ look at those rocks!! YEP, they're rocks!! Why do people feel just because the find something interesting and want to share it, do they need to post to you tube like they're an authority on the subject? Still haven't seen anything that shows you found Tagertsville Powder Works or the village og Tagertsville.
