The sheer number of people who think pronouns are just things used by lgbt ppl tells me school has failed all of them
@MisterIncog7 сағат бұрын
Yes, reject modernity, embrace oonga boonga. MrIncog communicate with grunts. Well, if we think about it even further, even if you stop using pronouns - other parts of speech will just become pronouns. It's not like "pronoun" is some definitive list, it's just a descriptive category of words depending on their function, and that function *will* be fulfilled if you use a language, no matter how hard you try to oppose it.

Calling everything by its name is funny because those are also pronouns

Don't forget the royal "we" which is singular, and in many languages they also add in the familiar vs the formal "you" both singular and plural. And why is using they/them/their as a non-gendered singular pronoun so hard, but using you for both singular and plural second person is fine? Oh because we have been doing it longer? OK.

THANK you!! As a world languages teacher, I am constantly telling my students this. Personal pronouns are not the only pronouns! You use pronouns all the time, in almost every sentence!

always loved being a smartass to transphobes and pointing out when they use pronouns (as in "I" or "you") in their sentences while saying they don't use pronouns but this... THIS is such a beautifully crafted presentation. THIS tops any attempt at being funny ive made. you have successfully learned and mastered english linguistics and used it to its full power in this video. bravo, pinkgooby. youve won

lazy and intellectually dishonest when it's obvious that when people say "pronouns" they're colloquially referring to the concept of preferred pronouns. hope we do indeed leave that narcissistic, entitled concept (and the obsession with conservative af gender roles) behind going forward into the year :3

I'm not too solid on phonetic symbols, so this was hard to research and I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that "ye" is pronounced the same as how "the" is today, following the same rules for if it precedes a vowel or consonant. At some point þ (thorn, th) was replaced by y, as they looked similar enough.

"Pronouns"? - you're telling me these nouns are PROfessional!? 😂
@madeleine6150919 сағат бұрын
In some languages, dropping pronouns works. In English however, it would be near impossible without (at the very least) completely overhauling all verb conjugations. For example, Spanish typically does not use pronouns. You just say the verb (correctly conjugated) followed by the rest of the sentence. That is because Spanish has unique enough verb endings that the person is as just as obvious from that as it would be from a pronoun. Como, comes, come, comemos, coméis, comen. In English however, the vast majority of verbs have barely any unique verb endings. I eat, you eat, h/s eats, they (s) eat, we eat, you (pl) eat, they (pl) eat. You drop the pronoun and there is absolutely no indication of the subject at all. Some people argue to replace pronouns with names, but that isn't very practical in broad language use.

I think the statement was more about not having the necessity to ask people for their pronouns (and rather using pronouns that match sex, not gender) rather than not using pronouns at all. Not defending any stance, I just think the statement of that message was just simply other.
