I have hydrocephalus since I was 15 till now that I am 44 and I've never had any surgery. I remember being very sick with headaches. dizziness, vomiting etc and the doctor suggested the shunt at the time but my mom talked to a doctor from back home and he suggested I take medication to dry the extra fluid and I remember taking this medication for a period of time and also brain vitamins. I never got the procedure and I don't think I would get it now. I still get headaches; I notice food or the sun etc. trigger headaches too, I also have mild dementia, I forget people's names or names of things that I already know but seem to forget. I also have depression and enxiety; but don't know if it has to do with hydrocephalus or not.

I have Hydrocephalus myself I've had 31 brain surgeries and 2 intestinal bypasses due to a shunt infection.

Wow I didn’t know it could infect your intestines as well. Thanks for sharing your story. It really helps a lot.

It can infect your intestines. I originally had a VP shunt since birth (double shunted) with many revisions following over the years. In 2003 I had a shunt infection which caused my shunts to stop working. I had a pocket full of infected fluid which caused my bowels to get blocked. The doctor's codeblued me twice and I almost died. I know have a VA shunt. Here it is 16 years later and I'm doing fantastic.
