I was at Torquay that day - the crews that made it were well sore!
@Mangocrazytoo2 ай бұрын
Was brutal race in Mango crazy, with shortest boat least powered, oldest crew member, disqualified at Torquay for being over time limit. Lyme bay was ghastly had to stop 4 times lost my visor, hatch two attempts to shut during a squall and replace a dislodged cushion, we think cost us 10+ minutes, along with some unusual wave patterns forcing me to drive along troughs at times then getting back onto Garmin track. However we completed course and had great reception arriving at Cowes to cheers, horns and lots of well wishers on Marina, 6 hours, thanks for video and hopefully see you next year.😂😂

nice to see some proper seas compared to the inshore circuit racing we have here now in the states

Say what??? This is nothing compared to some of the stuff they run in here in the states. I just finished watching old video of the 51’ Apache named Warpath doing 90mph in 8’ seas during one of the Florida races. Warpath would have smoked these guys.

Watched these as a child many years ago, fabulous, then took my children to see them being unloaded, then in Torquay one came to my garage on a lorry to be fuelled up in the 80s, I had to keep resetting the pump as it went over the limit. Brilliant sport, brilliant technology and great teams. Sea conditions were very testing by looks of things.

A good thing to see offshore boats actually go offshore to race, not like those events held close to land for ppl to watch. I mean its spectacular to se boats go flat out close by in a harbour, but propper offshore racing is something different all together.

Awesome footage, horsepower versus a very confused sea state. Brings to mind the expression, “those brave men in their flying machines”. This is definitely an endurance race, hard on the body and hard on the boat.
