The greatest horse ever foled the world wept ( I did like a child) when he died. I was around at 12 going on 13 years old & watched all 3 races. It’s was an honor and privilege to see him run. His lope was so great it was as winged Pegasus flying. It was such a thing of beauty I cried during the last part of the Belmont stakes. I’m not ashamed to admit that ppl if you were around to see him run I bet you cried too.

Thank you Lord for letting us borrow your horse. We called him Secretariat and we still love and miss him

I think Australias best athlete would have given secretariat a head start and would have still beaten him home the mighty phar lap .without going into the modern era

secretariat is the greatest, FASTEST horse that has ever graced this earth. Truly what God meant a horse to be! Watch his last race. Sham's jockey is whipping sham constantly yet secretariat required NOTHING. And this is that magnificent red stallion racing the finest thoroughbreds in America!!!!!!

Greatest ATHLETE? Secretariat is NOT even the greatest horse of the 20th century!!!! Fractions, fractions, fraction!!! Athletes? I'd like to put a word in for Jim Thorpe, the Olympic great pentathaloner. The Olympic committee took away all of his gold medals because he played one summer of semi-professional baseball!!!! A Native American who just vanquished the field!!! And don't forget Jesse Owens. Another Olympian. Hitler was there, and when Jesse beat the white guys on the track, Hitler got up and walked out. Jesse contradicted his belief that the Aryan race was better than the black race. Jackie Robinson? There are tons of other great athletes. I can name many manyi people as well as horses who are better than Secretariat. Kincsem, in the 1800;s a Hungarian horse raced all over the Contenent and even England, raced 54 times and won, are you ready, 54 races!!! Never lost a race!! Was unbeaten!!!. Had several walk-overs because no other horses wanted to race against her!!! "Was thin as a boat, hengry like a tiger, long legged." The description sounds like she had a lot of Turkish in her.

How fast would Secretariat have run the Belmont, if he had had a horse next to him the whole race? Of course that would never have been possible.

Why would anybody completely ruin Chick Anderson’s call of that historic race with that s***ty music, for God’s sake? That call was ALL that was needed - PERIOD!

Once in a great while, God makes a perfect animal. Secretariat was that horse. 50 years on he's still a record breaker. We remember. True greatness

I still get goosebumps when the announcer calls, "he is moving like a tremendous machine!" just as he's passing the American flag. He was America's Horse. GOAT!!

I could watch videos of secretariat every day I ever since I saw him and 73 in the Belmont he has captured my heart. In person he is so much more than even in the film shows.

Greatest Athlete??? He is not even the greatest horse. Light years slower than Dr. Fager, Swaps and Spectacular Bid. Not as durable as Forego, Kelso, and Round Table. Never tested with weight like all mentioned above. And lost to horses like Angle Light, Prove Out, and the mighty Onion..😄. I'll go with Bo Jackson. And sorry, an open air win against hot garbage on a blazing fast surface is not even a worthy argument. When The Bid set the world record for the champions distance of 1 1/4 miles. He galloped out the 1 1/2 miles in a full second faster...get a clue!

You owe it to yourselves to read Bill Nack’s love story about Secretariat written for Sports Illustrated in 1990. It’s titled “ Pure Heart” and it’s the best article I have ever read in the magazine. I’ve been a subscriber for almost 60 years. He was the perfect horse.

I cry every time I watch this. I wish I could of met him.

In the Belmont it was just unbelievable because horses only run that fast when they’re normally being pushed by other horses he was all alone and never started running slower he just kept running faster and faster with nobody behind him and I’ve never in all the races I’ve watched never saw a horse ever do that they always run faster because they’re being pushed he was being pushed by God
