I wonder what kind of satisfaction this gives? Proving yourself tough? I guess it’s just the adrenaline adiction.

I'm really amazed...this is a beginner's behavior of mountaineering...a harness with a double carabiner would be enough and even in case of slipping you could save your life...the use of safety devices should be mandatory...😢😢

I did this climb in 2020 with my 2 friends. I have a massive fear of heights but I felt I had to climb in order to truly experience the full Half Dome hike. My legs were noodles by the time we even reached the cables so on the way up the cables I had to use my arms the entire time. When we finally reached the top I was exhausted and started panicking thinking about having to now go back down. My arms and legs were both noodles now. I said a prayer and headed down. I was literally holding on for dear life. For those who are watching this video in preparation for this hike, make sure you have proper hiking shoes. By that I mean shoes with a Vibram grip, preferably the Vibram Megagrip sole. The climb is very slippery so don't risk it by wearing casual hiking shoes

That empty water bottle pissed me off 😡. It was likly from someone who finished the bottle and instead of putting it in their pack and dispose of it later, just throw it on the ground as litter. It's amazing how many of the "outdoorsy nature lovers" will trash nature without a care in the world.

I Felt safer going down the cables than going down the sub dome for some reason.

What is the steepest angle encountered while climbing this rock? And does it stay at that angle for a long distance? Pure conjecture on my part but it appears that going down is harder than going up.

My son did the half dome last year in the early season before the cables were up on stanchions and the lower approach dome was all ice. He's an experienced mountaineer, had his ice axe and crampons. He said it was a little challenging, but not overly dangerous with the proper gear. As he was coming out and had just crossed the ice on the lower dome, some guy with just pants and a light shirt asked my son if he thought it would be safe....the guy had NO gear! My tried not to laugh at him and just said "I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I wouldn't if I was you". THAT is how people get killed in these places, utter stupidity. It's relatively safe in the summer with the lower dome is clear and the cables are up in the stanchions. BUT, if it's rainy or wet, that can make a normally safe climb very dangerous even in summer on smooth faced climbs like this.

The slope is not that steep. I remember when I went down, I went on the outside of the ropes and just held on lightly with one hand.
