We went to Grand Manan a few years ago when you could still camp on the cliffs. Nice relaxing place to go to! We did have a 12 hour period when the fog horn sounded every 50 seconds…that was a treat!

@SketchingwithJim-cv7nkАй бұрын
Thanks! Yes, that is a tricky part of any kind of drawing, when to stop adding stuff and call it done. I stop many a drawing and come back the next day for a fresh look before continuing or stopping. If I have an “off” day I do a few small sketches that aren’t “serious “ to get back in the groove.

As a beginner... would you suggest to draw first with pencil or start with a pen ..my objective is to sketch with a pen .. just not sure where to start.....
@SketchingwithJim-cv7nkАй бұрын
I’m no expert and not a teacher, but hope my videos inspire. I would say, draw as much as you can with pencil and / or pen. If it gives you more confidence and thereby enables you to draw more often, use a pencil first as a guide . When I do a portrait of someones house for example, I do a detailed pencil drawing and then go over with ink ( erasing the pencil after). I started drawing strait with ink when I wanted to draw on location, to save time and to have a more immediate sketchy feel ( still working on that, it’s way easier to draw at home with a desk and lights etc.)All I can say is, there is no “ proper” way to go about art, do what feels good to you.
@ralphherrick596Ай бұрын
Thanks for your answers....yes your videos do and have inspired me.... thanks for sharing your talent.....
@davidtick9182Ай бұрын
I like the change and the sketchy drawing. As a beginner, this drawing seems to me to be more complex than some of the previous drawings. I certainly will give this a try. Thanks for your time and expertise.
@SketchingwithJim-cv7nkАй бұрын
I hope the drawings inspire, and don’t discourage. After a while, and lots of doodling and sketching and line making it will come more naturally. Do what feels good to you, that is real art.
@vincentterracciano8214Ай бұрын
When I opened the video and saw the photo I thought this was going to be extremely difficult. Love the way you simplified the scene and still captured the essence of the photo.

Thanks for granting my request. The drawing is a lot more involved than I had ever imagined and it’s quite amazing and beautiful. Much appreciated.
@SketchingwithJim-cv7nk2 ай бұрын
You are very welcome. Yes, it probably became more “ involved” when I decided to try it just in ink. A more simple drawing, maybe even a light pencil sketch could be a base for a watercolour. Thanks for the challenge, I enjoyed it.

Thanks for the comment. It would be interesting to try drawing it again but use different shading, hatching etc each time, wonder how many different ways one could handle it in ink.

I don’t do anything special other than keep them in a cupboard loose or in drawing pads. Any charcoal or pencil drawings I spray with a fixative to prevent smudging.
