Yea Vahlen may be an unstopable force of science but to be honest the gear you can make from the rulers makes up for it.

people that talk about the things Xcom in all the games did is not looking at the bigger picture of would we oursleves do any less in the same instance if facing the end of our species i think we as a people would consider nothing as off the table or unthinkable as we have proven over the entire history of our species what we are willing to do to keep our people alive these games just take it to the extreme

There is a Xcom Fanfiction story, written by Vesmolol, called Broken. It is a sequel story written about a Let's Play series by BeagleRush. This story deals with the after effects of the Soldiers who survived the War. The protagonist is a woman who volunteered to be a MEC Trooper. She basically became a Robot to fight this war. She lost her squad leader on the First Alien Troop Ship landing. She lost her training buddy on the next landed Abductor Ship. She lost her bunk mate on a Terror Mission in Johanesburg. She lost her Best friend in the Xcom Base Assult. Everytime she loses someone, she loses more of her humanity. And when the War is over, when she hears the news that the Aliens have left the Solar System, she breaks. What is her purpose now? What was all that raining, her sacrifice for? This story is about a soldiers attempts to return to civillian life. And in her case? She couldn't do it. If you can stand to read Fan Fiction stories, then this is a good Story. The first story started as a write along to a Let's Play, but it turns into its own creation around the half way mark. But it is worth a read if you want to get the full story of Renzol, the German Rocketeer turned MEC Trooper.

In Alien Hunters you have to remember the aliens WON. XCOM didn't defeat the aliens. The aliens are enmass converting humans. That's a very different world.

Vahlen a hero without her digging deeper world be doomed. Her story not about Science going too Far it a story about how far are we willing to evolve as a spieces. In Xcom 2 it made very clear we ignored her research and we lost because of it and thanks to her letting out Alien rulers out early the Aliens in Xcom 2 lost there plan B to keep order. Thanks to her actions in Xcom she gave humanity a victory. Way i see Alien rulers would play out if she did not do what she did by making them by mistake and wasting the DNA. We beat Chosen and Etherials well now Plan B triggers and Rulers rally Advent and war keeps going without peace. Ya Xcom 2 ends with forshadowing of another wave but thanks to her actions we got few years of peace. Something i realized: You forgot Context of who X com troops are they people who job it is risk there lives for mission of saving humanity at all coasts.

some but most people know (I knew instantly) the A.W.P synergized with the heart of ice, frost bullets, frost ammolet or snowballets, it gets the arctic warfare synergy. its a reference to a player and a gun skin in Counter Strike. the player called Coldzera who made a play in 2016 at the MLG Columbus Major where he jumped and collated 2 players with a noscope midair (in CSGO this is like a 1 in a million shot) and the gun skin being a skin called AWP Asiimov which was Coldzera's skin of choice at the time of the play. now the items being used in this synergy (being ice items) and the A.W.P which was the gun that was used in this iconic, and i mean it was that iconic it got a graffiti in the the location of the map to immortalize the moment. it seems that the ice items are referencing to cold-zera and the A.W.P's re-skin with the synergy is the exact skin and colours in CSGO. find it pretty cool tbh

Her compulsion was always her greatest strength. But really, its also why real scientists have to deal with the ethics council. Also,sorry but those soldiers are very much volunteers.

I sure hope Dr. Vahlen gets a redemption arc in XCOM3. She's my favourite character and I'd love to see her having continued experimenting even after XCOM2 but that these experiments actually created benefits on the scale of the alien rulers.

Commander! You may want to instruct your men to exercise restraint when using explosives... while certainly effective at killing aliens, they also destroy the artifacts we're hoping to recover from the bodies. Just something to consider.

Old video but I'm new to the game. On the rulers it seems like the aliens had already been collecting and altering other races of species. What Valen did was to remove genetic blockers that the aliens had placed to limit their growth and development much like the scientists in Jurassic Park tried with making all the dinosaurs female. All of the enemies we face are neutered.

3:04 Actually, it's not understandable at all. Even during an invasion. We don't fully know or understand meld long term or short term effects. Think about this, what if yhe aliens had a weapon, that destroyed meld on a battlefield? She could have easily lost us the war. The only reason we know it's safe, relatively speaking, is because it's a new mechanic for the dlc.

The irony is, the people who condemn Vahlen's work and her methods would probably be the first to join the Advent. They simply don't understand that they can have these discussions about what is right vs wrong, what is human vs inhuman, just because of people like her.

Xcom 2 does not have an alternate timeline; it is the actual continuation of the first game. In Xcom 1 you never really won, they make that clear in the second one. In the first game, during the Exalt assault on your base, you were captured, and the rest of the first game, including the ending, are actually "simulations" that the aliens themselves made you live.
