Thank you Rancher Banyan for supplying more details about your project. Purpose, materials, techniques used and challenges encountered. Are you working towards supporting rotational grazing a la Greg Judy on smaller paddocks within your pastures?
@bluerayranch3 ай бұрын
@@robinchristopherson8767 Yes that is correct that is the plan. We are going to be able to graze smaller paddocks. There are going to be multiple watering points.

While this device certainly does what it was intended to do, it can't replace a nice big shade tree. Might want to plant some. Plus, next big wind will cause a lot of damage.
@bluerayranch4 ай бұрын
@@johnmcmillan7358 Yes sir, I agree on trees first for shade. We have many trees where there is soil to maintain them. The shade haven is for the paddocks with limestone bedrock. We are happy to have the grass grow in these areas as topsoil is an issue. As for wind we close it up in 1 minute flat.🤠

Those little babies with grow strong with their mothers milk. Eventually those calves will become less dependent on their mothers as they have matured and are mostly eating plants. But their bond with their mothers is still solid. When have achieved a healthy size, the will be separated from their mothers and weaned from her milk. Now unless the heifers are being raised to be replacements for older cows will be culled and sent down the road, the calves will not see their mothers again. The calves who will not remain on the farm / ranch will be sold to be further fed to grow until they have reached another mile stone in their lives. They will be trucked to a facility where one by one they will enter a narrow walkway. When each reached the end they move into a chute. Above them is a worker with a captive bolt gun which he/she will place on the optimal spot on their skull. When the bolt gun has stunned the animal, it slides off to the side where stands another worker will place a chain around a rear leg and hoist them in the air and a sharp knife will slice their the windpipe and arteries, so there blood will drain before they, on rolling chain belt, move down the disassembly line. A strong device will pull their hide from their hopefully dead body after still another worker(s) has placed some strategic cuts. Yes, those small calves are cute. We might speak to them in baby talk and admire them beside their mothers, but in a relatively short time, they will be disassembled for their meat and anything else which will be useful for people and animals.

With all due respect, you just described the conventional cattle industry which we take no part in. We understand the momma-calf bond very well as we have 6 plus generations of family members here on our land. We enjoy watching our grandmothers babysit the calves during the day. Our cows do not leave the ranch to be fattened up on grain nor are they culled and sent down the road. Our weaning process is the natural way which take patience and kindness. Yes...we do eat beef as the steer provide the blessing of our food. We honor and respect our herd for providing sustenance and amazing nutrition to our family and friends. We respect your opinion as well as others as some choose to be Vegan or Vegetarian. May you have peace and blessings.
