That’s a great resolution. Unfortunately to make it harder they’ll be at all of the stores now too! Seeds equal time eventually but they also represent potential😂. What would the equation be?! I got that fish pepper too! I’ve actually made the jump from hobbyist to professional this year and will be selling to a florist and a coffee stand so my resolution is to stay on top of successions and timely plantings
@Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds15 сағат бұрын
Congratulations on starting to sell to a florist & coffee shop this year! 😊 I like to succession plant for many reasons. Other than just needing more flowers, we get storms sometimes that will rough up my flowers so it’s always nice to have even a small extra planting growing. Yes, seed temptation is everywhere! 😂 I hope the fish pepper does well for both of us! ☀️

Interesting video I'm in the Pacific Nortwest zone 8b. I''ve left my dahlias in ground for three years now. They came back bigger, stronger, and more pest/disease resistant than the first year, plus I had blooms around six weeks earlier than if I dig them. They were starting to bloom when everyone in the PNW was putting their's in the ground. I did dig them this year because I want to move the bed to a more favorable location. Some of the tuber clumps were monsters, I had to break apart with a shovel. I'll let these heal over for a few days, then I'm going to try an experiment, I'm going plant half the tubers outdoors in their new location now (Dec.22) and store the other half in case my experiment doesn't work. I suspect it will work, but I'll find out in spring Good luck with your garden, and cool video, thanks for sharing! 👍

I loved hearing about your experience with leaving dahlias in the ground. 😊 Yes, it’s so nice getting blooms earlier this way. I have had the same experience. I bet you dug up some monsters! I have been wondering about the size of some of my clumps! 😂 Thank you for the nice comment & good luck with your dahlia move! 🌸☀️🌸

it was likely sitting too wet for a long time in the soil and that's why its root mass rotted and it started the leaf drop. terracotta is better because it breathes out extra moisture.
@Heirloom_Leaves_and_SeedsАй бұрын
I think you are right. There was a few occasions where it was very dry & then I more than likely watered it too much. It is getting some new growth now & hopefully recovering. 😊

Zone 7B/8A, N MS. I've grown Mahogany Splendor Hibiscus for the past few years and this is the first year it bloomed due to a very delayed freeze. Although not freeze hardy, the plant does have enough time to bloom as you get near the Gulf Coast. The blooms are the same shade as the foliage so are hard to spot but are very much hibiscus blooms. Mine have not had enough time to dry on the plant, so I am not sure if the seed is viable, but I have harvested some faded blooms. Last weekend's frost got coleus, but I had several plants still blooming until Thanksgiving night when our temps dropped to 27. We have several low 20's in the forecast over the next few days.

So interesting! I am so happy to hear that they do bloom & it will definitely be a fun experiment to try to get some of mine to bloom. Thank you for the information & stopping by! 🌺😊🌺

Just another reason to want to move to Greece! Very interesting. I rebelled against the idea of something that takes so long to be useable and planted a couple of Japanese Maples instead. Ironically they take years to be useable 😂
@Heirloom_Leaves_and_SeedsАй бұрын
Yes, I bet their growing season is so nice! 😊 When I use this Hibiscus in bouquets customers will ask if they are Japanese Maples. They look so similar! 🌺 Japanese maples are so slow growing, but such a beautiful tree. 😊

2nd the garden marker brand for writing - I use a paint stirrer stick so its a bit bigger with the marker and they hold up, the plastic markers just break off and are too small

Violets believe they are ground cover in my VA yard. I was pulling them out of my flower beds until I found out they are host plants for fritillaries. I’m fine with violets taking over the grass. Have at it. I still want to have some room for other plants in the beds!
@Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds4 ай бұрын
I know what you are talking about. The violets love the shaded areas around our house & are everywhere. I checked & two types of fritillary caterpillars use violets as their host plant in Tn. I will have to keep an eye out for them! 🌸

@Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds4 ай бұрын
Congratulations on the new property! 😊Besides providing food for monarch & tussock caterpillars, milkweed flowers are a great nectar source for pollinators. Milkweed also supports beneficial insects, which will help keep insect pests in check.
